Vietjet flight diverts for medical emergency

SINGAPORE, 6 October 2017 – Vietjet’s flight VJ926  from Hai Phong, Vietnam to Seoul, South Korea, earlier this week, was diverted to Hanoi due to a passenger needing urgent medical attention.

The crew on board were alerted to the situation and carried out first aid, but the decision was made by the captain to divert the flight to Noi Bai International Airport to provide the passenger with immediate medical assistance.

AirAsia launches Manila-HCMC service

MANILA, 5 October 2017: Philippines AirAsia will start a new service from Manila to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam this November.

The airline has already opened booking for the new service due to get underway 7 November with a VIP loaded inaugural flight.

Using an Airbus A320 aircraft the airline will fly the route three times weekly. Read more

Swiss Belhotel expands in Vietnam

HALONG BAY, Vietnam, 28 September 2017: Swiss-Belhotel International has signed a management agreement with Times Garden Vietnam JSC to launch Swiss-Belhotel Suites and Residences Halong Bay.

Comprising 50 Shop Houses and 236 Residences, the development will occupy a prime location close to the newly built Clock Tower overlooking the Halong Bay UNESCO World Heritage site.

The property will open in two phases with three floors of accommodation and shop houses scheduled to welcome guests in the first quarter of 2018 and a mix of one to three-room residences due to open in the first quarter of 2019. Read more

Hertz names GSAs for India and Vietnam

SINGAPORE, 26 September 2017:  Hertz Global Holdings Inc announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hertz Corporation, has appointed Discover the World and InterGlobe Air Transport Limited (IGAT) as general sales agents (GSAs) for Vietnam and selected markets in India.

Both GSAs will promote Hertz’s products and services  worldwide to domestic travel trade partners, corporate customers and leisure travellers.

Both GSA partners were selected for their extensive expertise in travel and strong local networks. In India, Hertz’s outbound sales efforts in Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumba continue to come under Discover the World, an international GSA partner of Hertz since 1995. Read more

AirAsia flies to Nha Trang

NHA TRANG, Vietnam, 20 September 2017: AirAsia has launched daily flights to Nha Trang, Vietnam, from its home-base Kuala Lumpur.

Flights commenced last Friday making AirAsia the first airline to operate a direct service to Nha Trang from Malaysia.

The inaugural flight was packed with a cabin factor of 93%.  Seats were filled up with VIP guests and media representatives, who joined the flight to Cam Ranh International Airport for the welcome ceremony. Read more

Campaign for holiday fair prices

PHNOM PENH, 19 September, 2017L Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism issued an advisory, last week, to hotels and tour companies, calling on them not to inflate prices during public holidays.

The directive was signed by Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, who warned hospitality services such as restaurants, resorts and hotels not to take advantage of domestic tourists.

Khmer Times, at the weekend, reported the campaign for fair prices would focus on Sihanoukville. a popular coastal destination a four-hour drive from the capital. Read more

Tourism keeps market floating

CAN THO, 14 September 2017: Fixing weighing scales used to be good business on Vietnam’s floating Cai Rang market, but the last repairman on the river now makes just a few dollars a month as modernity pushes traders to land.

Surrounded by dusty old scales on his cluttered houseboat, Nguyen Van Ut says vendors are giving up their boats for better lives on terra firma where supermarkets draw the traders who once thronged the waterway.

“I don’t have many customers now. In the past, it was alright, but now many boats have left the floating market… people on vessels have switched to vehicles,” the 71-year-old told AFP. Read more

BANGKOK, 12 September 2017: Operation Smile Thailand encouraged 20 cyclists, who joined the inaugural YAANA Bike Challenge, offering them a big ‘thank you’ as they embarked on 226-km fundraiser ride for the charity, 9 September.

The three-day corporate challenge ended Monday, 11 September in central Vietnam.

Riders raised  thousands of dollars for Operation Smile, which pays for operations for Asian children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip. Read more

CLMV minsters create blueprint

HO CHI MINH CITY, 11 September 2017: Four Mekong Region countries, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam attracted 22 million visits, last year, leaders of the CLMV tourism group reported on the sidelines of the International Travel Expo last Friday.

They were attending the 4th Meeting of Cambodia – Laos – Myanmar- Vietnam (CLMV) Tourism Ministers, held during ITE Ho Chi Minh City and concluded tourism was major driver for their economies.

The meeting was chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Ngoc Thien. Read more
