PHNOM PENH, 24 October 2017:  Phoenix Voyages is supporting the construction of a new vocational school in  Cambodia’s Kampong Thom province that will provide professional studies in computer science, tourism and agriculture to rural students.

Phoenix Voyages group president, Edouard George, attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the future ‘Professional School of Baray,’ earlier this month

The school project is being funded by donations from the Phoenix Voyages Foundation, a CSR initiative established by the regional tour company. Read more

Journey Within hands over local offices

SIEM REAP, 21 September, 2017: Journey Within Tour Company is handing over its Southeast Asian operations to local staff for them to own and manage.

The process starts in Cambodia with staff in the Siem Reap office taking control of operations rather than it continuing as a subsidiary of the US-based Journey Within Tour.

From humble beginnings that grew out of a small bed & breakfast enterprise in Siem Reap, Cambodia in 2003, the US-based Journeys Within Tour Company has offices in Cambodia Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Read more

Cambodia and Nepal mull two-way tourism

PHNOM PENH, 19 September 2017: Cambodia and Nepal’s travel agency associations signed a Memorandum of Understanding, last week, to develop two-way tourism between the two countries.

Travel between the two countries is in its infancy with less than 2,500 Nepalese visiting Cambodia last year and even fewer Cambodians travelling to the Himalayan nation.

The MoU was signed by the presidents of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents (CATA) and Nepal Travel Agents Association (NTAA) in Phnom Penh, 12 September. Read more

Campaign for holiday fair prices

PHNOM PENH, 19 September, 2017L Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism issued an advisory, last week, to hotels and tour companies, calling on them not to inflate prices during public holidays.

The directive was signed by Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, who warned hospitality services such as restaurants, resorts and hotels not to take advantage of domestic tourists.

Khmer Times, at the weekend, reported the campaign for fair prices would focus on Sihanoukville. a popular coastal destination a four-hour drive from the capital. Read more

Tent holidays save trees

PHNOM PENH, 8 September 2017: A brand new Cardamom Tented Camp in Botum Sakor National Park in southwest Cambodia is due to soft open 1 November.

To launch the luxury tent stays in a national park setting the resort released details three-day/two-night and four-day/three-night packages for nature tourists.

The safari-style camp, with nine furnished and boutique tents, each with a private bathroom, is open for booking for stays 1 November onwards. Read more

Talks on linking Vietnam and Cambodia’s tourism

PHNOM PENH, 31 August 2017: Vietnamese and Cambodian tourism officials met in Phnon Penh, earlier this week, to explore how to boost tourism between the two countries.

Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism, under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism met with officials from with Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism and the Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia for the event hosted in Phnom Penh, Tuesday, Vietnam Breaking News reported.

Celebration for the 50th anniversary of the founding of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations was the core element for the gathering of tourism officials. Read more

Lanmei on launch pad

PHNOM PENH, 29 August 2017: Lanmei Airlines, the latest Chinese airline venture in Cambodia, is expected to start its first services 15 September.

Home-based in the Cambodian capital, the Chinese-owned airline applied for an operating licence last January.

AirlineRoute indicated the airline has now filed a preliminary schedule with both GDS and OAG Schedules Analyser, a strong indicator that the airline is ready to fly. Read more

Cambodia introduces marine tax

PHNOM PENH, 24 August 2017: Sihanoukville authorities confirmed, this week, they will introduce a new tax on tourists claiming it will help to protect the environment.

News of the new environment tax surfaced earlier in the month. In its latest update to travel partners, Asian Trails, a leading tour operator in Cambodia, confirmed the tax would be levied on all tourists using boat transport for an overnight stay or a  full-day excursion to off-shore islands.

Tourists will be charged a USD2 tax at the point of departure. Read more

Fewer gates for eVisa travel

PHNOM PENH, 21 August 2017: Travellers should be aware that Cambodia’s eVisa is not available at every immigration checkpoint in the country.

Cambodia Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation announced, last week, a decision to restrict the scope of the eVisa with regards entry locations.

Ban plastic bottles on your travels

PHNOM PENH, 15 August 2017: Journeys Within, a US-based tour company, has introduced a video illustrating a day in the life of a reusable water bottle in the hands of a traveller visiting Siem Reap, Cambodia.

It illustrates the ‘Refill Not Landfill’ campaign, which aims to cut down on millions of single-use plastic water bottles discarded in Cambodia annually.

Tour companies are encouraged to offer reusable aluminium bottles and refill stations as an alternative. Read more
