AirAsia X launches Uzbekistan route

SINGAPORE, 25 June 2025: AirAsia X celebrated its growing presence in Central Asia with the announcement of a brand new route to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, unlocking new adventures in Central Asia after Almaty, Kazakhstan, for Singaporeans via ‘Fly-Thru’ services in Kuala Lumpur.

Starting from 15 October 2025, AAX will operate three weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent. Travellers from Singapore will be able to access the route by choosing one of 11 daily flights available between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

(L-R) Mohd Akbal Setia, Director of International Promotions for America, Europe and Oceania, Tourism Malaysia;  Amanda Woo, Chief Commercial Officer, AirAsia Aviation Group; Chua Choon Hwa; Deputy Secretary-General (Tourism) of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture; Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X; His Excellency Karomidin Gadoev, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia; Dato’ Fam Lee Ee, Non-Independent Non-Executive Chairman of AirAsia X and Ikhlas Kamarudin, CEO of Ikhlas.com.

Following AAX’s entry into the region with Almaty, Kazakhstan, in early 2024, with a consistently strong load factor and increased flight frequencies, the Tashkent route aims further to facilitate air travel between Southeast Asia and Central Asia, fostering stronger trade, tourism, and business ties between the regions.

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said: “The launch of our Kuala Lumpur-Tashkent route is a strategic milestone in AAX’s continued growth across Asia and beyond. Central Asia presents immense potential, with Uzbekistan’s economy growing steadily and a rising middle class eager to explore new destinations. We have seen a strong and growing demand for Central Asia following our successful Almaty route, and our vision is to create a comprehensive network that supports regional development and also connects people to these less-explored destinations whilst creating unforgettable travel experiences along the way. This year, as of May, Almaty has quickly emerged as one of the top Fly-Thru destinations from Singapore, contributing to more than 10% of the overall load.”

As AAX expands its foray into Central Asia, opening up more adventurous travel opportunities for Singaporeans to explore the stunning city of Uzbekistan, the airline is offering special promotional fares flying from Singapore to Tashkent via Fly-Thru in Kuala Lumpur, from as low as SGD391* all-in-one way. The promotional fares are available for booking on the AirAsia MOVE app and airasia.com until 6 July 2025, for travel between 15 October 2025 and 14 September 2026.

Nestled in the heart of Uzbekistan, its capital, Tashkent, is a thriving city renowned for its majestic Islamic architecture, bustling bazaars, and lush parks. As the country’s largest city and economic hub, Tashkent boasts a growing tourism sector and expanding business opportunities, making it an increasingly popular destination for both leisure and commerce.

ITE2025 achieves mega event targets

HONG KONG, 24 June 2025: Hong Kong’s top travel show ITE2025 concluded last week, having made significant strides to enhance visitor quality and quantity, both travel consumers and trade visitors.

The fifth live edition since 2021 (post-COVID-19 pandemic) ITE2025 convened from 12 to 15 June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The first two days focused on trade visitors, of whom over half were non-Hong Kong residents before the show doors opened to travel consumers.

Launched nearly 40 years ago, this year’s edition co-located the 39th ITE Leisure and the 20th ITE MICE, prompting the Hong Kong government to designate the show as a “mega event”.

Trade days attracted 7626 buyers and trade visitors, up 8.6%. Geographically, 46.8% hailed from Hong Kong, 33% from the Chinese Mainland and 20.2% from overseas.

In particular, there was a strong turnout of trade visitors from the Greater Bay Area cities, both individuals and official delegations from travel trade associations. 45.7% of trade visitors (travel agents or tour operators), 15.3% MICE/corporate, and 6.1% media.

Show organiser TKS Exhibition Services noted that the increase in visitors was partly due to the high profile of international exhibitors, who made up 90% of the show space, and the addition of 135 informative trade and public seminar sessions. The show statistics indicated that 502 exhibitors from 64 countries participated in ITE2025.

Organised by TKS Exhibition Services Ltd, the annual event is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, China, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Macau Government Tourism Office and the Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong.

The next ITE Hong Kong will be held from 11 to 14 June 11 2026 at Halls 1 and 2 of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

54th SKÅL Asia Area Congress

COLOMBO, 24 June 2025: Skålleagues across Asia and beyond are heading to the highly anticipated 54th SKÅL Asia Area Congress, set to take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from Thursday, 26 June to Sunday, 29 June, 2025.

Hosted by SKÅL International Colombo, this year’s event has already attracted record registered delegates and partners, including a strong showing from Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and throughout Asia including a record-breaking 100+ attendees from India.

A Global Network

SKÅL International, the world’s largest and oldest global tourism association, currently has 12,120 members in 296 clubs across 79 countries, according to the latest data on https://www.skal.org. STB revokes five travel agent licences

SINGAPORE, 24 June 2025: The Singapore Tourism Board reported on Monday that it has revoked the licences of five travel agents under the Travel Agents Act 1975.

UPDATE: Singapore, 1800, 23 June 2025 – “The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) issued an update to its earlier media advisory regarding the revocation of six travel agents’ licences. Zayn Travels Pte Ltd has submitted an appeal against the licence revocation. As such, STB is temporarily withholding their name from the list of revoked licences while the appeal is being reviewed.

The five travel agents are no longer permitted to carry out any travel agent activities. The travel agencies’ licences have been revoked due to their continued failure to submit their Audited Statement of Accounts (ASA) and/or Annual Business Profile Returns (ABPR).

Under the Travel Agents Regulations 2017 (TAR), licensees are required to submit these documents within six months after the close of their financial year.

Additionally, one travel agency has been revoked for failing to meet the minimum financial requirement. Under the TAR, general licensees are required to maintain a net value of at least SGD100,000 at all times.

The revoked travel agents must refund all their existing customers or hand over their existing obligations to licensed travel agents to fulfil the contracted itineraries and arrangements.

In a press statement released on Monday, STB said: It takes a serious view against errant travel agents and will not hesitate to take necessary actions to protect the reputation of Singapore’s travel industry.”

Emirates returned to the show displaying its newest aircraft — the Airbus A350 — featuring the airline’s next-generation cabin design, latest interiors, and technologies. The Emirates A350 on display featured three spacious cabin classes, including 32 next-generation Business Class lie-flat seats, 21 Premium Economy seats, and 259 generously pitched Economy Class seats.
