TUI sells Hapag Lloyd

FRANKFURT, 17 July 2017: German tourism giant TUI said last week it has sold its remaining stake in the shipping firm Hapag-Lloyd, the final stage of a restructuring towards mass-market tourism.

The Hanover-based tour operator raised around 250 million euros (USD284.6 million) after selling 8.5 million shares. It followed TUI’s sale of around six million shares since last March.

The sale means “we have successfully completed selling off all the companies and holdings unrelated to the core activity of the group,” TUI finance director Horst Baier said in a statement. Read more

Maritime week in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 8 March 2017: Sea Asia 2017, ASEAN’s top maritime exhibition, is gearing up to host more than 16,000 people from over 80 countries, 25 to 27 April in Singapore.

Taking place as part of the 12th Singapore Maritime Week (22 to 28 April), it will opened by Singapore’s Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Minister for Transport, Khaw Boon Wan.

Singapore Maritime Foundation chairman, Andreas Sohmen-Pao, said: “The maritime industry has always played a vital role in Singapore’s economy and by attracting companies and talent, we will continue to build on the strong platform that has been established over the past decade.” Read more

Mega maritime event in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 2 April 2015: Singapore is gearing up to host more than 14,000 participants from over 60 countries, this month, at Sea Asia 2015 — one of the region’s largest maritime conferences.

Singapore Maritime Foundation chairman, Michael Chia, said this year’s Sea Asia recognises Singapore’s position as an international maritime centre and highlight the role the industry has played in the country’s growth.

“2015 is a big year with Singapore celebrating its 50th anniversary — a key milestone to reflect on the sectors which have helped Singapore become what it is today.”
