Tour East taps Expedia channel

BANGKOK, 16 October 2017: Tour East has gained access to Expedia Local Expert’s programme reaching out to more than 1 million Expedia customers visiting Phuket and Bangkok to offer them in-destination services.

Expedia signed an agreement with Tour East Thailand, earlier this month, that creates a partnership with the inbound tour company and allows it to sell tours and transfers, ultimately in all major tourist destinations in Thailand,

It’s the first agreement of its kind outside of the US where Expedia launched its “Local Experts” programme in 2013 that acts as a concierge for travellers booked through Expedia. Read more

THAI sets up Alitrip online sales

BANGKOK, 5 September 2017: Thai Airways International opened its first THAI online Flagship Store last week, in China through the Fliggy sales platform run under  Alitrip and the Alibaba Group.

THAI’s acting president, Usanee Sangsingkeo (third from left), presided over the opening of the online store.

Expedia beefs up hotel support

BANGKOK, 21 August 2017 – Expedia  launched its Rev+ tool in Thailand this week for hotel partners.

As part its partner portal, Expedia PartnerCentral, helps helps hotels to manage their online rates better and gain insights on their competitive set.

Its Rev+ tool covers revenue management by providing actionable data to empower partners to make smart decisions to optimise their revenue. Read more

Expedia locks in Traveloka

JAKARTA, 2 August 2017: Expedia Inc has invested USD350 million Traveloka Holding Limited, a leading Southeast Asian online travel company.

The deal was concluded over the weekend with Expedia describing it as a “primary minority investment” in Traveloka to deepen cooperation on global hotel supply.

Over the course of Traveloka’s last two funding rounds, East Ventures, Hillhouse Capital Group, and Sequoia Capital also contributed funding, bringing the total investment amount to approximately USD500 million within the last year. Read more

India’s Yatra buys out ATB

GURGAON, INDIA, 27 July 2017: Yatra Online has entered into a definitive agreement, through its subsidiary, Yatra Online Private Limited to acquire Air Travel Bureau Ltd.

The Boards of Directors of both companies have approved the transaction according to the announcement last Tuesday.

ATB is India’s largest independent corporate travel services provider with gross bookings of INR15 billion mainly through 400 large and medium sized businesses across India. Read more

Travel club in fight to raise prices

BANGKOK, 6 June 2017: Tourism Authority of Thailand joins hands with the Online Tourism Club (Thailand)  that seeks to minimise online operators that sell what it called ‘lower quality tour packages.”

The recently-established Online Tourism Club (Thailand) is made up of 44 members who represent tour operators and attractions across Thailand.

The club claims the objective is to work with TAT to stem the practice of selling cheap low quality travel to Chinese independent travellers. Read more

Angkor ticket sales will go online

SIEM REAP, 12 April 2017: Two Cambodian ministries approved measures, last week, that will allow tourists to pay by credit card and obtain entrance tickets to Angkor Wat online.

Agence Kampuchea Presse reported that approval was granted during a Board Meeting of Angkor Enterprise chaired by Aun Porn Moniroth, senior minister and Minister of Economy and Finance as well as the Ministry of Tourism.

The two ministries agreed to allow Angkor Enterprise to develop and manage  ticket sales to foreign tourists online with secure credit card payments. Read more

OTAs told to drop illegal hotels

BANGKOK, 24 March 2017: The Thai government intends to work closely with the private sector to sift out illegal hotel operators that sell rooms through the online room bookings space.

Deputy Prime Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn chaired a meeting of the National Policy Committee for Tourism, earlier this week to discuss the subject within the framework of tourism management and community tourism promotions, according to the National News Bureau.

Gen Tanasak noted at the meeting that tourist arrivals had surpassed 6 million and generating more than THB300 million in revenue. Read more

US arrests online pimps

NEW YORK, 26 August 2015: Seven New Yorkers were arrested and charged with promoting male prostitution on Tuesday through an “Internet brothel” offering sex to paid-subscribers across the world, prosecutors said.

The website offered services at destinations as far away as Thailand and even Afghanistan.

Website hosts thousands of paid advertisements from men, primarily offering prostitution internationally and in cities across the United States, prosecutors said.
