DidaTravel monitors booking surge

SHENZHEN, China, 5 October: DidaTravel, a tech-driven global travel distribution company headquartered in Shenzhen, reports remarkable hotel sales growth following Thailand’s introduction of a visa exemption scheme for Chinese travellers valid until 29 February 2024.

The Thai government introduced a 30-day visa-free stay for Chinese nationals starting 25 September. DidaTravel says a positive trend in visits is already evident, as Chinese travellers’ bookings for Thailand hotels grew by 30% almost immediately.

During this year’s Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays, late September and early October, Chinese travellers’ hotel bookings in Thailand are now up by a staggering 700% compared to the previous year as demand approaches 2019 levels.

The Average Daily Rate (ADR) has also witnessed a significant rise of 42% year-on-year. These statistics reflect Chinese travellers’ growing interest and confidence in Thailand as a preferred holiday destination.

DidaTravel booking trends show that Chinese travellers have strongly preferred cities such as Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and the picturesque islands of Samui, Ko Phi Phi, and Krabi.

DidaTravel’s chief marketing officer Gareth Matthews commented: “Thailand is well known for its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. We are excited about the recent announcement from the government of Thailand to implement visa-free travel for Chinese visitors. At DidaTravel we connect 4,000 hotels with competitive prices in Thailand and recognise the immense potential this holds for our industry”.

With the introduction of this visa exemption scheme, Thailand should welcome around 4  to  4.4 million Chinese tourists in 2023, thereby achieving the forecasted revenue target of THB257,500 million.

SAS to join Air France-KM Group

PARIS, 5 October 2023: Air France-KLM will team up with Swedish airline SAS through equity and commercial cooperation, the airlines announced on Wednesday.

Air France-KLM will take up to a maximum 19.9% non-controlling stake in the share capital of the reorganised SAS AB, subject to approvals and conditions.

Air France-KLM said its goal is to enhance the group’s footprint in Scandinavian markets through commercial cooperation between its airlines and SAS.

The airline group welcomes today’s announcement by SAS AB’s Board of Directors that the Air France-KLM Group, Castlelake LP on behalf of certain funds or affiliates, and Lind Invest ApS (“Consortium”) have, together, been selected as the winning bidder in SAS’s exit financing solicitation process.

Air France-KLM CEO Benjamine Smith stated: “This is an important day for SAS and Air France-KLM. We are pleased to be part of the winning bidding consortium selected by the board of SAS. Air France-KLM looks forward to establishing strong commercial ties with SAS. With its well-established position in Scandinavia and strong brand, SAS offers tremendous potential to Air France-KLM. This cooperation will allow Air France-KLM to enhance its position in the Nordics and improve connectivity for Scandinavian and European travellers. We look forward to being a part of this new chapter in SAS’ history and thank the board of SAS for their trust.”

The Consortium’s investment proposal is subject to certain conditions and regulatory approvals including, but not limited to, approval by the European Commission, the US court overseeing the Chapter 11 reorganisation and, in respect of SAS AB, the Swedish court.

Should this transaction be approved and all the other conditions (including regulatory clearances and cancellation of all existing shares of stock of SAS AB) be satisfied, the Consortium, together with the Danish State, would invest USD1.175 billion, of which USD475 million in common shares and USD700 million in the form of secured convertible bonds.

Air France-KLM’s investment would represent USD144.5 million, of which USD109.5 million would be invested in common shares and USD 35 million would be provided as secured convertible bonds. Upon completion of the transaction, Air France-KLM would own up to a maximum 19.9% non-controlling stake in the share capital of the reorganised SAS AB.

SINGAPORE, 5 October 2023: Korean Air will expand operations for the winter season to meet resurgent travel demand by resuming services and increasing operations to China, Japan, Southeast Asia, North America and Oceania.

The airline will also launch a new scheduled service to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, on 26 November.

The IATA (International Air Transport Association) winter season begins on the last Sunday of October and ends on the last Saturday of March every year (29 October 29 2023 to 30 March 2024).

Korean Air’s seat capacity (measured by Available Seat Kilometers or ASK) reached approximately 85% of pre-pandemic levels last September and is expected to recover to over 90% with the launch of the winter schedule.

New daily service to Phu Quoc, Vietnam

Resuming services to cities in China and Japan

After a three-year and seven-month pause, Korean Air will resume services to three cities in China and Japan respectively. Network recovery in China and Japan has been relatively slower than other regions, and the resumption will help the airline restore its expansive global network.

For the China routes, Busan-Shanghai and Seoul Incheon-Xiamen will operate daily, and Seoul Incheon-Kunming four times a week. Korean Air will proactively increase its capacity to China to meet the growing number of Chinese visitors, especially following China’s resumption of group tours from August to 78 countries, including Korea, Japan and the US.

From late October, the airline will resume routes from Seoul Incheon to Kagoshima, Niigata and Okayama with three weekly flights. The resumption will offer schedule diversity and options for those exploring smaller Japanese cities.

Increasing frequencies to China, Japan, Southeast Asia, Oceania and North America

Korean Air will expand its China network capacity by increasing the Seoul Incheon-Beijing frequency to 18 times a week from daily, Jeju-Beijing to four times a week from three, Seoul Incheon-Shenzhen and Seoul Incheon-Xian increase to daily from four times a week, Seoul Incheon-Wuhan to four times a week from three, and Seoul Incheon-Hong Kong frequency will double from twice daily to four daily.

Korean Air will increase frequencies on the Seoul Incheon-Osaka and Seoul Incheon-Fukuoka routes to four daily from three and on the Seoul Incheon-Tokyo Narita route to four daily from two. The airline will also expand services on the Seoul Incheon-Nagoya route to operate 17 times a week from two daily until 27 December.

As for Southeast Asia, the airline will increase flights on the Incheon-Bangkok route to five times daily from three; the Incheon-Manila route to three times daily from two; and the Seoul Incheon-Delhi and Seoul Incheon-Kathmandu routes to four times a week from three. The Incheon-Chiang Mai route frequency will increase to twice daily from daily until 2 March next year.

Frequencies on the Seoul Incheon-Auckland and Seoul Incheon-Brisbane routes will increase daily from five weekly from 10 November to 18 March 2024. The Seoul Incheon-Las Vegas route frequency will also increase to five weekly from four.

Emirates crowned APEX award winner

DUBAI, UAE, 4 October 2023: Emirates has recently been crowned the 2024 APEX World Class Airline winner for mastering guest experience and delivering outstanding customer service at the 2024 APEX/IFSA Awards held in Long Beach, California.

Evaluated through a comprehensive audit of quality of service, safety, and health control initiatives, Emirates is one of just eight airlines globally to achieve this accolade. Emirates also received a 2024 IFSA award for ‘Best Onboard Amenity,’ in recognition of the Emirates Sustainable Economy Class amenity kit – filled with useful amenities to enhance passenger comfort whilst being composed of more sustainable materials designed for reusability.

Recognising Emirates’ commitment to ensuring passengers ‘Fly Better,’ Emirates was awarded the World Class accolade for demonstrating the highest global standards of safety and well-being, sustainability, and service-guest experience. Celebrating a year of record profits, a successful first year of Premium Economy Class, sizeable investments into enhancing onboard services, and notable steps in the journey towards a more sustainable future, Emirates was lauded by the aviation industry for its innovation and commitment to excellence.

APEX CEO Joe Leader commented: “Tonight, we did more than merely acknowledge the prowess and passion of the airline industry, we paid tribute to 2024 APEX World Class trailblazers like Emirates, who have unequivocally etched a golden chapter in the annals of air travel beyond five stars. I had the privilege of spending invaluable moments with President Sir Tim Clark at APEX’s FTE EMEA event in Dublin earlier this year. The insights, the vision, and the sheer audacity of Emirates’ approach to revolutionising the skies carried in every word he shared. Emirates is not just an airline; it’s a symphony of innovation, ambition, and undying commitment to excellence.”

About Emirates Economy Class Amenity Kits

Emirates’ Economy Class range of amenity kits are complimentary for customers on long-haul flights and feature designs that represent the four essential elements of nature – fire, water, earth, and air. The pouches are reusable and made from washable kraft paper with bespoke art printed in non-toxic soy-based ink. The contents include a selection of durable travel essentials made from materials that are more environmentally friendly than single-use plastic. The toothbrush is made from wheat straw and plastic, and the socks and eyeshades are made from recycled plastic, in this case, rPET (recycled polyethylene terephthalate).

To complement the reusable amenity kits onboard, Emirates has several other initiatives in economy class which focus on using sustainable materials where possible, including cosy blankets made from recycled plastic bottles, where each blanket is made from 28 recycled plastic bottles – an initiative which has prevented over 95 million plastic bottles from going to landfill over the last six years.

Single-use plastic has been reduced with the introduction of wooden tea and coffee stirrers onboard. At the same time, paper straws and inflight retail bags are made using wood and paper from responsibly managed forests. For Emirates’ youngest customers, the airline’s complimentary toy bags, baby amenity kits and plush toys are also made from recycled plastic bottles and other sustainable materials. Emirates also recycles plastic and glass onboard when flights land in Dubai, diverting thousands of kilograms of glass and plastic away from landfill each year.

About the APEX World Class Awards

APEX (Airline Passenger Experience Association), the largest international airline association dedicated to passengers and advancing their experience, is the official rating body that issues the new WORLD CLASS award and accreditation.
