Rugby boosts NZ tourism

WELLINGTON, 22 September 2017: New Zealand’s economy grew 0.8% in the April-June quarter partly due to a tourism boost from the British and Irish Lions rugby tour, official data showed Thursday.

Statistics New Zealand said the quarterly figure, which was in line with market expectations and released just days ahead of national elections on Saturday, took annual growth to 2.7%.

It said exports rose 5.2%, the best quarterly performance in almost 20 years, amid high demand for New Zealand dairy and forestry products. Read more

Travel to Japan booms

TOKYO, 24 February 2017: The Japan National Tourism Organisation reports visitors to Japan reached 24.04 million during 2016.

This represents the largest on record since JNTO started to keep statistics in 1964.

On Tuesday, StubHub and Rugby Singapore announced a partnership to promote the HSBC Singapore Rugby 7s, worldwide, through the easy to use online ticketing channel.

StubHub’s ticketing portals support 36 currencies and can be accessed in more than 20 languages. Read more

SINGAPORE, 2 November 2015: Tickets for the 2016 HSBC Singapore Rugby Sevens went on sale last Friday, with organisers expecting a strong turn-out from both local fans and overseas visitors for the family-friendly rugby spectacle mid-April 2016.

Singapore is the only Southeast Asian city on the global circuit and the eighth of 10 legs on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

It joins Hong Kong on the global circuit, a destination that has been linked with the game since it was launched in the 1980s.

Rugby World Cup fans take a hit

LONDON, 10 September 2015: With just 10 days to go to the 2015 Rugby World Cup is hosted in England and Wales, hotel search website trivago.co.uk has analysed hotel prices and availability in the host cities.

A hotel stay on a match night will cost an average of £261 (184% above the average of £92 during 2014), with prices increasing for each match in each city.

The largest increases can be found in Cardiff, where prices have increased by up to 1095%, reaching an average of £1018 for the Quarter Final at Millennium Stadium on Saturday 17th October.
