AOT denies plan to raise PSC

BANGKOK, 18 January 2018: Thailand’s airline passengers will be happy with the Airports of Thailand’s reassurance that airport taxes, both international and domestic, will remain unchanged in 2018.

Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited  confirmed Wednesday that its Passenger Service Charge (PSC) collected at six airports under its management will remain THB700 for international s and THB100 for domestic departures.

AOT has been heavily criticised the high cost of snacks and drinks at its six airports. A bottle of drinking water can cost up to five times the price charged at retail outlets elsewhere. Read more

BANGKOK, 22 November 2017: Thai Lion Air rolled out a Travel-Year-End promotion, Monday, that claims to offer one-way fares as low as THB490 and THB590 on domestic routes in Thailand.

The booking window is open until 26 November, so you will need to get your skates on to grab the one-way fare bargains.

Qantas flags ultra long-haul flights

SYDNEY, 28 August 2017: Australia’s Qantas unveiled plans for the world’s longest non-stop commercial flight, last Friday, calling it the “last frontier of global aviation”, as it posted healthy annual net profits on the back of a strong domestic market.

The firm, which hopes to fly non-stop from Australia to London and New York by 2022, announced a 17.2% slip in annual net profit to AUD852 million (USD673 million) after record results last year.

The airline’s underlying profit before tax — its preferred measure — was the second-highest in its history at AUD1.4 billion for the year to June 30, matching forecasts. Read more

Cebu Pacific expands routes

SINGAPORE 24 August 2017: Cebu Pacific expands its domestic route network and presence in Southeast Asia with four new routes.

The airline said the move would improve accessibility for travellers outside of Metro Manila, while increasing connectivity within the region.

Cebu Pacific announced it would start a three-weekly Kalibo-Clark flight (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) 30 October, linking Western Visayas, including Boracay Island, to tourists from North and Central Luzon, as well as foreigners via Clark International Airport. Read more

Qatar and Vistara sign pact

DOHA, Qatar, 23 August 2017: Qatar Airways has entered into a new interline partnership, Tuesday, with full-service Indian airline Vistara.

It coincides with Qatar Airways’ 20th anniversary serving destinations in India.

The new interline agreement became effective 22 August and allows Qatar Airways’ passengers to travel seamlessly to and from cities within India across Vistara’s network, via Qatar Airways’ existing 13 Indian gateways on a single ticket. Read more

Travel Fair promises bargains

BANGKOK, 4 August 2017: The 21st edition of Thai International Travel Fair will take 10 to 13 August at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

Thai Travel Agents Association president, Suparerk Soorangura, said the event should support outbound and domestic tourism markets and will boost travel bookings in the last quarter.

“Themed Fun For Family, the 21st edition is organised to stimulate tourism for both domestic and outbound sectors and encourages travellers to buy holiday packages and services directly from tour operators,” he said.
Fair visitors can usually pick up hotel, tour and airfare deals that are lower than what are on offer through other channels. Read more

PAL buys aircraft to compete

MANILA, 21 June 2017: Philippine Airlines will buy seven planes from Canada’s Bombardier as part of an effort to regain its dominance of the growing air travel market, the carrier said Tuesday.

PAL said it sealed the deal for seven Q400 turboprops, worth USD235 million at list prices, at the Paris Air Show.

The carrier aims to increase its fleet serving smaller islands in the archipelagic nation. Read more

Thai Smile adds domestic services

BANGKOK, 29 May 2017: Thai Smile will increase flights from Bangkok to Udon Thani in the northeast and Narathiwat in deep south Thailand this June.

Effective 2 June, the additional flight, WE010, from Bangkok to Udon Thani will operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

While the return flight, WE011, will start on 3 June and operate on Monday, Saturday and Sunday. Read more
