BANGKOK, 18 August 2017: Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has appointed Michel Checoury as its new chief financial officer (CFO).

He joins the Mövenpick leadership team from Aman Resorts where he was CFO since 2014, responsible for the finances at 31 properties in 19 countries.

He will be responsible for aligning strategic planning, the ongoing implementation of Mövenpick’s successful business model and supporting all finance-related decisions and functions.  Read more

BANGKOK, 16 August 2017: Thailand has identified the pursuit of quality tourism as its strategic goal in a bid to shift the emphasis from counting tourist arrivals to building revenue, length of stay and offering upscale travel experiences.

MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) is viewed as the travel segment that will help Thailand do just that, as well as ensuring it can rise through the ranks to become the leader in ASEAN’s highly competitive events business.

Wharf names Marco Polo GM

HONG KONG, 10 August 2017: Wharf Hotels has appointed Marcel Sawyere as general manager of Marco Polo Lingnan Tiandi Foshan, in China.

A veteran hotelier with a wealth of experience spanning over 34 years, Sawyere has held leadership roles in hospitality across Asia Pacific.

He was general manager of Vinpearl Golf and Resort in Vietnam following management roles with Fairmont Hotels, Dusit International in Thailand and Wanda Hotels and Resorts in China. Read more

JacTravel CEO calls it a day

LONDON, 9 August 2017: JacTravel’s CEO, Terry Williamson, has announced that he will be leaving JacTravel following the completion of the sale of the company to Webjet.

The sale is scheduled to be completed officially at the end of this month.

Webjet Limited announce, 2 August, that it had entered into an agreement to acquire JacTravel. Read more

Centara names Trat manager

TRAT, 7 August 2017: Centara Hotels & Resorts, announced, Friday, the appointment of Thatthep (Kevin) Thamrongwarasart as resort manager of the group’s beach resort in Trat, the far south east province on the Gulf of Thailand.

He has worked for more than 15 years in hotel management. Prior to join Centara he held a senior management position at Sofitel So Bangkok.

Thatthep graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general management from Bangkok University and has a diploma in travel and tourism from Cavendish College London. Read more

WTTC name first woman president

LONDON, 2 August 2017: World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has confirmed the appointment of Gloria Guevara Manzo as its new president & CEO.

She is the first woman to head the WTTC’s top management team.

She takes over from former WTTC president and CEO, David Scowsill, who announced his decision to resign after six years heading the council, earlier this year. Read more

It named David Cumming as regional vice president of operations for Bangkok, Malaysia and Laos.

SINGAPORE, 27 July 2017: Sabre Corporation appointed Clinton Anderson, earlier this week, as president of Sabre Hospitality Solutions (SHS), effective 7 August.

He will succeed Alex Alt who has accepted an executive position at another company.

Anderson joined Sabre in 2014, and he currently serves as senior vice president of strategy. Read more

Dusit names regional VP

BANGKOK, 21 July 2017: Thailand-based Dusit International has appointed Prateek Kumar as regional vice president – EMEA region.

He will be responsible for strengthening Dusit’s operations and supporting development efforts in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

For the past two years Kumar was area general manager in charge of Dusit’s operations in Dubai. Read more
