Outrigger names vice president

HONOLULU, 4 October 2017:  Outrigger Enterprises Group has appointed Michael Shaff as vice president, hotel operations – Waikiki/Guam.

Shaff comes to Outrigger from KSL Resorts, where he held numerous key leadership roles over the past 14 years.

Most recently, he served as director of asset management overseeing three luxury resorts in southern California (Renaissance Esmeralda, Hotel del Coronado and Monarch Beach Resort & Spa). Read more

Wyndham names Thailand team leader

PHUKET, 29 September 2017: Wyndham Hotel Group Southeast Asia and Pacific Rim named Scott Walton as area general manager, Thailand, effective this month.

He will be based in Phuket and responsible for Wyndham’s portfolio of mixed-use hotels in the country.

The US group manages two hotels on the island, Wyndham Grand Phuket Kalim Bay and Wyndham Sea Pearl Resort Phuket, where he will take on the additional role of general manager overseeing the day-to-day operations of the resort. Read more

Mövenpick strengthens sales

BAAR, Switzerland, 25 September, 2017: Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has appointed Julien Bonafous as vice president sales, a new role created to support the hospitality firm’s ongoing expansion drive.

Bonafous, whose 20-year career in the hotel industry has included several senior sales and marketing roles with key international players including Starwood, Hilton and IHG, is taking charge of Mövenpick’s sales strategy globally.

He will be responsible for leading the group’s sales operations, which include 17 international and area sales offices, worldwide, ensuring sales activity is aligned to key marketing objectives across Europe, Africa, the Middle East and in Asia where the group’s footprint is expanding at pace. Reed chairs Destination Asia

BANGKOK, 20 September 2017: Destination Asia’s founder and CEO, James Reed, assumes the role of executive chairman, while Monique Arnoux joins as the company’s CEO.

Reed formed Destination Asia Group in 1996, and is credited with being one of the early pioneers who developed the lucrative inbound incentives segment in Thailand and neighbouring countries.

He started with a presence in just two countries and 18 staff in 1996, building the firm to what it is today with an Asia-wide network in 11 countries and over 600 staff working in 29 offices. Read more

Wharf appoints group director

HONG KONG,  20 September 2017:  Wharf Hotels has appointed James Bevans as its new group director of rooms.

Reporting to the group’s vice president operations, Bevans is responsible for room operations at the group’s 15 hotels under the Niccolo and Marco Polo Hotels brands.

AVANI names VP ops

BANGKOK, 14 September 2017: AVANI Hotels & Resorts, Minor Hotels’ has appointed Alejandro Bernabé as vice president of operations, effective this month.

Bernabé joined AVANI as group director in January this year. He reports directly to Minor Hotels chief operating officer, Robert Kunkler and is based at Minor Hotels regional office in Bangkok.

Wood back in Asia Skål

BANGKOK, 6 September 2017: Skål Club Bangkok’s PR director, Andrew Wood, has been assigned the role of vice president for Skål’s Southeast Asia board.

An long-time member and supporter of Skål, an association for travel industry executives worldwide, Wood served on the Southeast Asia board as vice president, 2009 to 2010.

He was also a key figure in various bids to bring the Skål International Congress to Thailand and a former president of the Bangkok club. Read more

Qatar CEO to chair IATA

DOHA, Qatar, 29 August 2017: Qatar Airways Group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker, has been elected chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association, effective June 2018.

The rotating one-year term will commence at the close of IATA’s 2018 Annual General Meeting in Sydney and will continue until the end of the 2019 AGM.

Al Baker will succeed current IATA BoG chairman, Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer of Singapore Airlines. Read more
