KUALA LUMPUR, 18 March 2018: Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism declared its participation at the 2019 MATTA Fair, that closed Sunday, a resounding success as exhibitors promoted new travel options to emerging destinations in Indonesia.
“
Malaysia is seen, as a major supply market for Indonesia and a decision by AirAsia to add more direct routes to emerging destinations was a major talking point at Indonesia’s show pavilion.
At this year’s MATTA show, Indonesia invested in a 180-square-metre pavilion that housed 22 organisations including travel agent, tour operators, hotels and tourist attractions.
The 2019 MATTA Fair reported robust tour package sales that attracted thousands of consumers keen to bag a bargain ahead of the summer holidays.
Indonesia’s promotions focused on travel to Banyuwangi and Lake Toba with both destinations now served by direct flight from Kuala Lumpur.
There was more evidence of tour packages highlighting Banyuwangi in east Java and Lake Toba in north Sumatra than in previous years as travel firms in Kuala Lumpur responded to the introduction of direct services particularly to Lake Toba.
Tapping direct flights that were introduced from Kuala Lumpur to Banyuwangi last December, the Ministry of Tourism said it was “aggressively promoting Banyuwangi highlighting it as a destination for nature and heritage tours.”
Lake Toba, was also high on the agenda following AirAsia’s decision to start direct flights from Kuala Lumpur this April.
