Scoot ready to fly to Berlin

-

SINGAPORE: Low-cost carrier Scoot will start flights to the German capital Berlin effective 20 June.

It will be Scoot’s third long-haul destination, after Athens and Honolulu.

Scoot earlier this year affirmed it would offer four weekly services to Berlin using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner that was delivered late last year to expand the airline’s long-haul services.

Flight time on the Singapore- Berlin route will be around 13 hours.

Singapore Airlines low-cost subsidiary operates a fleet of 16, 787 Dreamliners and 23 Airbus A320 family aircraft.

Earlier this year, Scoot CEO Lee Lik Hsin commented that the merger with Tigerair Singapore had opened the door for the airline to expand its long-haul operations.

However, Berlin is an unusual choice as the major slice of low-cost leisure travel to Asia out of Germany is generated in regions around Düsseldorf and Munich.

The lowest roundtrip fare in mid June will cost around SGD 1,122.

Singapore Airlines confirmed that it would codeshare  with new  Scoot service to Berlin which will boost bookings on Singapore – Berlin Tegel route.

The Scoot service will operate four times weekly on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, departing Singapore at 0025 and arriving in Berlin at 0720
