World music has fans dancing

-

KUCHING, 19 July 2018:  Sarawak’s 21st Rainforest World Music Festival entertained world music lovers and attracted a record turnout last weekend.

Sarawak’s latest edition of its Hornbill Trail Newsletter noted that the true “indicator of the festival’s success was the vast audience on Saturday night” that packed into the arena set against the backdrop of a coastal rainforest.

Hornbill Trail’s enthusiastic reporter said the “crowd went wild” dancing and applauding the stage performance of a local Sarawak group “At Adau.”

As the carrying capacity for the Sarawak Cultural Village venue is capped at 8,000 people, organisers admitted they had reached the nightly limit during the 21st festival.

It speaks volumes for one of ASEAN’s most famous and iconic music festivals that took years of hard work and commitment by the tourist board to turn it into a must-see event for the region’s world music lovers.

The festival is one of the most consistent festivals music fans will find in the region. With very few exceptions it is hosted on the exact the same week each year and at the same beachside venue with its two natural stages nestled under the natural canopy of a coastal rainforest.

It so predictable, that when fans checked out last weekend many of them booked the same dates at their favourite hotel for next year’s gig.
