Special year for Chinese tourists

-

PHNOM PENH, 7 June 2019: Cambodia is campaigning to attract more Chinese and one of the tools happens to be a China-Cambodia Cultural and Tourism Year.

Phnom Penh Post claimed that “2,000 Chinese envoys” visited Cambodia last weekend led by China’s Cultural and Tourism deputy minister.

This followed on from a meeting held in February between Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and China’s Minister of Tourism, Luo Shugang, when both countries agreed to promote two-way tourism and cultural exchange.

The so-called “envoys” visited both Phnom Penh and Siem Reap ahead of cultural performances and presentations.

Government officials said the China-Cambodia Cultural and Tourism Year would help to establish joint promotions, cultural exchange and support human resource development and art performances.

During the first quarter of 2019, Cambodia recorded 1.9 million airline tourist arrivals up 9.7%. Chinese tourist arrivals led the field with 683,436 visits
