ITB to set up shop in India

-

BERLIN, 11 March 2019 – Messe Berlin will take its ITB brand to India in 2020 creating a new trade show to cover India and its neighbours in the country’s commercial capital of Mumbai.

ITB India will join two other shows one in Singapore and the other in China also owned and managed by Messe Berlin.

The announcement came on the heels of confirmation that ITB Berlin attracted a record turnout of more than 10,000 exhibiting companies at this year, indicating there is still life in the world’s oldest travel show.

Hosted 6 to 10 March the show continued the tradition of limiting access to the travel trade until Friday 8 when it opened to travel consumers during the weekend.

On the sidelines of the trade show, conferences were hosted with close to 400 leading speakers, who led session dealing with challenges facing the international tourism industry such as the ‘overtourism’ crises, the shift in customer demands, the threat of climate change, and new forms of transportation.

”Once again ITB Berlin showed that the traditional trade show format can be more successful even in the digital age,” said Messe Berlin CEO Christian Göke.

Commenting on new show in India he said: “At the same time our trade shows have evolved into global brands. ITB India will further strengthen ITB’s standing as the international marketplace for the travel industry.”

ITB India 2020 will debut in Mumbai 15 to 17 April 2020 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre.

Covering three days the show will be held annually and aims to bring together leading representatives of the travel industry with buyers from cities throughout India and international exhibitors from the MICE, leisure and corporate markets.

The show will also feature a hosted buyers’ programme, which targets buyers from major cities of varying size.

Some 10,000 exhibiting companies from 181 countries and regions attended ITB Berlin filling up the venue’s 26 halls. Over 80% of exhibitors came from outside Germany.

Messe Berlin said it expected more than 100,000 international trade visitors and travel consumers would visit the show this year.

ITB Berlin 2020 dates: Wednesday, 4 March to Sunday, 8 March.
