DoT woos world’s moviemakers

BANGKOK, 6 March 2019: Thailand’s Department of Tourism will organise the Thailand International Film Destination Festival 2019, 25 March to 2 April.

The department that comes under the Ministry of Tourism and Sports has hosted the event since 2013.

The department’s data shows that 714 films were shot in Thailand last year, generating an estimated THB 3.1 billion baht in revenue.

A government’s policy that provides international filmmakers various incentives has also contributed to the positive response.

According to the department’s director general, Anan Wongbenjarat, many of the films were shot in secondary destinations, supported the government’s policy to promote tourism to 55 lesser-known provinces.

The result of the short film competition will be announced 2 April. Free viewing of international films shot in Thailand will be held from 27 March to 31 at Siam Paragon Cineplex.
