Yangon welcomes new China flights

YANGON, 16 November 2018: Two Chinese airlines are currently introducing new services to Yangon, Myanmar’s commercial capital.

China’s low-cost airline 9 Air has introduced a new service from Guangzhou to Yangon late October

The airline concentrates on domestic services having just one international route before it introduced the flight to Yangon.

The service was inaugurated 28 October with a welcome ceremony at Yangon’s airport.

Using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft the flight operates four days a week on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. According to the airline’s schedule posted by Airlineroute the flight departs Guangzhou at 1640 and arrives in Yangon at 2015. The return flight departs Yangon at 2145 and arrives in Guangzhou at 0110 on the following morning.

Meanwhile effective 13 November, Sichuan Airlines launched a new direct service from Xi’An to Yangon.

Using an Airbus A320 the Chinese airline will offer three services weekly on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Flights depart from Xi’an at 0835 and arrive in Yangon at 1105. The return flight departs from Yangon at 1235 and arrives in Xi’an at 1725

The airline has signalled its intention to launch a direct flight Xi’An – Mandalay during the summer timetable that kicks in 31 March, 2019.

The seasonal flights will operate four times a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday using an A320.

Sichuan Airlines also launched a service routed Hanzhou – Wuyishan – Bangkok, Thailand, 6 November. Bookings are not open for the service, but the schedule according to Airlineroute indicates three services a week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday using an A320, possibly with all seats pre-sold to Chinese tour operators.
