SINGAPORE, 2 November 2019: The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards will travel to Singapore in 2019, the first time the event has been hosted in Asia.
Dates have yet to be finalised, but the organisers William Reed Business Media said “it is likely to be hosted in late June”. The UK company signed the deal to host the prestigious awards, earlier this year, with the Singapore Tourism Board.
Under a three-year agreement, the company will also deliver a pipeline of “best awards” events to Singapore, 2019 to 2021.
The crown jewel will be the 2019 hosting of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards that was held this year in Bilbao, Spain on 19 June.
The so-called “Oscars of global gastronomy” were held for 16 years in London, but in 2016 it embarked on a global tour that saw the glamorous awards presentation hosted in New York, followed by Melbourne Australia in 2017 and Bilbao Spain this year.
Considered a top spot for foodies, Singapore is recognised as a crossroads of culinary cultures, mixing Chinese, Malay and Indian elements while embracing European influences.
The gala ceremony will announce the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019, sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, as well as a range of special awards celebrating “talent, diversity, opportunity and sustainability.”
Votes are cast by 1,000 industry experts, worldwide, and adhere to a gender equality policy with organisers confirming a 50-50 balance of men and women for the first time in the 2019 voting system.
The event is the curtain raiser on a three-year partnership between William Reed Business Media and the STB to bring a series of 50 Best-branded events between 2019 and 2021.
In 2020, a special standalone edition of #50BestTalks, presented by Miele, will take place in Singapore where thought-leaders in gastronomy will discuss topical issues, food trends and dining hotspots.
The third edition of Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards was hosted, earlier this year, in Singapore and will continue to be hosted in the city-state in 2019 and 2020.
In 2021, the contract concludes with Singapore hosting The World’s 50 Best Bars, which has been hosted in London since it was founded in 2008.
