Lufthansa launches Munch and Bangkok service

BANGKOK, 8 October 2018: Lufthansa will fly a daily service between Bangkok and its hub in Munich, effective 2 June, 2019.

The new long-haul flight will adds more than 2000 seats per week on Lufthansa services to the Thai capital from Munich, the state capital of Bavaria in southern Germany.

Bookings opened for the new service 4 October with special fares across all three classes.

A business fare sells from THB79,990, premium economy from THB39,990, and economy from THB19,990, but for a limited sales period ahead of the launch.

Lufthansa will go head-to-head on the Bangkok-Munich with Thai Airways international, which is currently the sole airline offering a nonstop service on the route.

This month, THAI is selling a roundtrip ticket for USD1,159  (THB38,000) in economy class.

A check of popular booking websites that are now fielding the new Lufthansa service for June 2019 are offering a fare of USD600 (THB19,670) which is very close to Lufthansa’s pre-launch early bird economy fare for the new service. However, a check of THAI’s website for a June 2019 booking showed the airline is already taking the battle to Lufthansa by selling a roundtrip economy fare at THB17,680 and in business class at THB71,615.

It indicates a strong sales response to Lufthansa’s nonstop service and suggests a fare battle is likely to emerge on the Bangkok-Munich route over the summer months of 2019.

Lufthansa will serve the new route with an Airbus A350 – 900 to aircraft configured with 48 seats in business class, 21 in premium economy, and 224 in economy class.

The aircraft is now a popular choice for long-haul services based on savings on fuel burn of up to 25%.

“In total, Lufthansa Group has 31 weekly flights out of Thailand to Europe,” said Lufthansa German Airlines general manager sales Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines and the Mekong Region Stefan Molnar.Flight Schedule:
