BANGKOK, 25 July 2018): Vietjet confirmed, Tuesday, it signed two contracts with Boeing and Airbus for 150 aircraft during the recent Farnborough International Airshow.
Boeing will supply 100 B737 MAX aircraft, while an Airbus MoU was signed for an order of 50 A321 neo single aisle aircraft.
The new order with Boeing, worth USD12.7 billion, will cover the low-cost airline’s fleet expansion through to 2025.
Vietjet also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for the purchase of an additional 50 A321neo single aisle aircraft worth USD 6.5 billion.
The latest agreement will see the carrier’s backlog of orders for the A320 family rise to 171 aircraft, including 123 A321neo and A321ceo. The delivery will be from now until 2025.
The new aircraft will be used by the airline to boost the networks of its Vietnam and Thailand operations.
Currently, the airline has a fleet of 60 aircraft, including A320s and A321s, and operates more than 385 flights daily. It has transported more than 60 million passengers on a network featuring 93 routes in Vietnam and across the region including Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Cambodia.
