THAI taps organic food channel

-

BANGKOK, 31 October 2019: Thai Airways International signed an agreement that will bring more fresh fruit and organic food to the inflight dining experience.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony took place earlier this week to facilitate the purchase of agricultural products, fresh food, and consumable goods involving  THAI and the Marketing Organisation for Farmers (MOF) that comes under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

THAI president Sumeth Damrongchaitham,  MOF deputy director Nuttawee Chaimala,  MOF chairman of the MOF Board Vinaroj Supsongsuk and THAI managing director catering Varangkana Luerojvong, attended the ceremony.

The airline’s managing director catering said: “ THAI’s catering department manufactures food for THAI passengers and over 60 customer airlines and its food preparation standards have been  recognised by GMP, HACCP, and ISO certification for high quality, hygiene, and safety standards and use pesticide-free vegetables, fruits, fresh food, and raw materials as ingredients.

The MOF will cover a five-year period starting this month that will see THAI purchase pesticide-free vegetables, fruits, and fresh food that are screened by the MOF. These agricultural products must also have GAP/organic or Halal certification.

In the past, THAI purchased agricultural produce from Thai farmers to prepare inflight meals that are served to passengers onboard, such as cold weather fruits and vegetables from the Royal Projects, agricultural produce from the southern province, Doi Kham processed vegetables and Young Smart Farmer’s produce from Chachoengsao province. In addition, OTOP (One Tambon One Product) products are sold on THAI flights. This MoU elevates Thai product and service standards whereby meals are prepared from pesticide-free, high-quality ingredients, in accordance with THAI’s mission to provide premium service standards throughout the journey.
