-

KRABI, Thailand, 16 August 2019: The Minister of Tourism and Sports, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, met with tourism business operators from the private sector in Krabi, on Monday, for feedback and suggestions on how to jointly develop tourism opportunities.

The minister met with officials from the Krabi Provincial Industry Council, and Executive Board of the Krabi Chamber of Commerce and the Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Phiphat said Krabi was in a strong position to further develop its tourism products, services both marine and land tourism content and attractions.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is working with various ministries to increase domestic and international flights to Krabi Airport.

There are also plans to improve overland tourism routes linking Krabi to neighbouring provinces in the southern region, especially the Andaman coastal provinces.

Maritime tourism focusing high spend tourists was also discussed in details.

The conclusion from the feedback suggested more needed to be done to ensure the safety of tourists and deliver high-quality services.

On the subject of marine tourism, it was pointed out that yachting and cruising attract high-spend tourists, but they also require that regulations and visa rules are clear. Krabi is already a popular stop for yachts cruising the Andaman Sea, but the sector needs top-notch security and quality back-up services.

The meeting also discussed the campaign “Krabi Go Green to Andaman Go Green’ supports community tourism and establishes sustainable principles for the province’s tourism.
