Batik Air flies to Penang

JAKARTA, 27 May 2019: Batik Air a member of Lion Air Group will launch a direct route from Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta airport to Penang starting 29 May.

The airline plans to operate a daily flight between the Indonesian capital and Malaysia’s popular holiday island using a Boeing 737-800NG with 12 business and 150 economy class seats.

Batik Air chief executive officer, Achmad Luthfie stated: “The opening of this international network route is a manifestation of Batik Air’s business expansion to support increased business and tourism traffic between the two countries.”

The flight will depart CGK at 0700 and arrive in Penang at 1015. The return flight will depart Penang at 1100 local time at Soekarno-Hatta at 1215.

From January to April 2019, Penang International Airport registered 1.2 million international passenger traffic movements, a growth of 10.4% over the same period last year. Batik Air is the third airline to serve the Jakarta – Penang route.

The airline serves 45 domestic and international destinations including Singapore; Chennai, India; Perth, Australia and Guilin and Kunming in China.

Its fleet comprises of 43 Airbus 320-200CEO, six Boeing 737-900ERs and eight Boeing 737-800NG.
