Thai AirAsia makes it five in Japan

-

BANGKOK, 29 March 2019: Thai AirAsia X will add four weekly direct flights from Bangkok (Don Mueang) to Fukuoka, the gateway of Kyushu.

AirAsia BIG members can book the flight at THB 2,990* until 14 April for travel from 3 July to 26 October, but only on the airline’s website.

AirAsia X and Thai AirAsia X chief executive officer, Nadda Buranasiri, said Japan is a strategic market for Thai AirAsia X.

The airline has been flying to Japan for close to five years now, beginning with Tokyo and Osaka. It added Sapporo and Nagoya last year and now Fukuoka as its fifth route.

“We thank all of our passengers for trusting us and giving Thai AirAsia X the opportunity to expand its network to so many more destinations. In Japan, AirAsia is increasingly recognised and reliable among Japanese travellers as affirmed by the 63% year-on-year growth in our proportion of Japanese passengers in 2018.

“We attribute such improvements to our addition to Sapporo and Nagoya last year. We still see much growth potential in the Japanese market and are hopeful that Fukuoka will further bolster tourism and the economies of both Thailand and Japan,” Nadda said.

Fukuoka prefecture is the largest city on the island of Kyushu in southern Japan and a hub of culture, cuisine and natural tourism destinations.

With shopping attractions such as Canal City Takata and Kawabatadori Shopping Street, it is easy to see why British media once placed Fukuoka among the top 10 cities to live in the world.

Fukuoka is also popular for its temples and shrines, which include Kyushu’s sacred Nanzoin Temple, home to an impressively large reclining Buddha statue; Tochoji Temple, one of the country’s oldest religious sites; Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine and Kushida Shrine.

Many more attractions stand across Kyushu island within reach from Fukuoka, including the cat island of Enoshima, the cruises of Yanagawa River, the hot springs of Beppu and Yufuin as well as the wisteria flowers of Kawachi Fujien that bloom between April and May.

Thai AirAsia X flies to nine cities in four countries (including Fukuoka) with direct flights from Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) to Seoul in South Korea; Tokyo, Osaka, Sapporo, Nagoya and Fukuoka in Japan; Shanghai and Tianjin in China and Brisbane in Australia.

*One-way all-in fare inclusive of only taxes and fees for AirAsia members only.
