Airline deals popping up on Facebook

-

BANGKOK, 23 January: Vietjet is adding a second daily flight on the Bangkok-Danang route, 1 February, a sign that competition is heating up and more travellers are considering visits to Vietnam’s central coast.

It follow on from an earlier announcement by Bangkok Airways confirming it would go double daily on the route effective 1 March.

Both airlines fly from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Clearly these two airlines are locking horns to fight for market share.

For starters, Vietjet has cut its one-way fare to THB599 including tax, fees and credit cards, but like all low-cost airlines it expects us to drop tools immediately to book and pay for the deal and beat a tight deadline. In this particular case the airline offered an unusually generous 10-day booking window 21 to 31 January.

A check of the fare comparison site, Skyscanner, shows Vietjet sells a roundtrip fare at USD228 (THB7,246) on the route outside of the Facebook deal.

However, competition must be fierce as the same booking site offered a roundrip fare on Bangkok Airways at USD175 (THB5,562) with the frills of a full-service carrier.

This week, sees Thai Air Asia X promoting a deal on international routes through Facebook Page posts. Travellers can pick up a THB2,690 fare from Bangkok Don Mueang Airport to various destinations in Asia.

The more popular options are to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Seoul and Shanghai.

The best fare deal is goes to BIG members, but that obstacle is easily resolved by joining the loyalty programme first. If not the fare on offer will set you back THB 2,730 one-way.

A business class, premium flatbed sells at THB7,890, one way , otherwise you need to shell out THB 7,930.

Travel dates on this deal are far down track at 1 August 2019 to 4 February 2020.

The fare deal does not include additional service fees and fees.

Thai Airways International’s newest promotion posted on Facebook offers savings when buying tickets using Siam Commercial Bank credit cards.

It offers what the airline calls cash-back credit of up to THB16,000 that can be used to fund future travel purchases.

Or a second offer gives you an additional THB10,000 when the spend bill reaches THB 500,000.

And finally the also-run prize is a get a free Starbucks gift voucher worth THB 200 when spending THB20,000 and Starbucks gift vouchers of up to THB600 for a higher spend.

The Thai language promotion suggests this is not an available option for foreign residents in Thailand who may have SCB cards.
