Heavy rain soaks tourist resorts

-

BANGKOK, 8 August 2018: The Thai Meteorological Department’s latest weather alert, issued 7 August, warns of winds and waves at southern tourist resorts and heavy rain across north and northeast provinces.

Effective 7 to 9 August, the TMD warned that a monsoon trough was covering the upper north and the upper Northeast.

An active low pressure over the South China Sea and a strong southwest monsoon also prevails across the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Outbreaks of more rain, as well as isolated heavy downpours, are expected across the country.

The strong wind and waves are forecast two to three metres high in the Andaman Sea, about two metres high in the upper Gulf and above three metres high in areas prone to thunder storms.

Small vessels, including tour boats, are ordered to remain in dock or onshore. Strong winds and heavy seas are forecast for Phuket with tour boats ordered to stay in port.
