Singaporeans remain cautious on travel

-

SINGAPORE, 8 September 2021: Booking.com’s latest trends report shows 63% of Singaporeans surveyed say they have no plans to travel until they are fully vaccinated.

More than 18 months since borders closed worldwide in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic, leisure travel in the Asia-Pacific remains at a standstill and is likely to stay that way until mid-2022.

Even though Singapore is a green light country for outbound travel to Europe, Booking.com’s recent Back To Travel research suggests the majority of Singaporeans surveyed are cautious about embarking on international travel, but there are some exceptions. such as the UK and Germany

Vaccination rates continue to rise with 80% of Singaporeans fully inoculated against Covid-19 and when combined with the recent announcement that vaccinated travel lanes with Germany and Brunei will commence this month travellers express more confidence booking travel. Germany is once more a top search choice for Singaporeans looking for a holiday.

Booking.com identifies the top five destinations that Singaporeans have been looking at since the recent announcement, shedding some light on the other countries that they are hoping will soon conclude similar travel lanes with the Singapore government.

Top searched overseas destinations*
London, United Kingdom
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Rome, Italy
Munich, Germany
Berlin, Germany

The ranking is influenced by international responses to the virus, potential air travel bubbles, and how quickly restrictions are lifted in countries and this is evident in all the above five destinations figuring high in searches.

Meanwhile, a YouTrip survey showed as many as seven in 10 Singaporeans said they were willing to travel the moment border restrictions are lifted.

YouTrip said 54% of Singaporean respondents would be happy to travel as soon as the restrictions are withdrawn. Of those, 40% said they were still hoping to visit Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia.

The survey also suggested that 85% of the people were prepared to spend even more on their next holiday, as a way to compensate for their previously cancelled plans.
