Kathmandu on security alert

-

KATHMANDU, 28 May 2019: At least four people died and seven others were injured in three explosions in the Nepali capital, Kathmandu, according to a BBC report Monday.

Three blasts – one in the city centre and two on the outskirts – occurred on Sunday afternoon according to local media reports.

One official told reporters a Maoist splinter group was under suspicion after pamphlets were found nearby.

The same group is alleged to have carried out an explosion in February, which killed one person in Kathmandu.

Security forces have sealed off the blast locations and say investigations are underway.

A UK travel advisory released late Monday said several explosions occurred in Kathmandu. It recommended that travellers visiting Kathmandu to avoid crowded areas and remain vigilant.

The current travel advisory level for Nepal is ‘exercise a high degree of caution’.
