BANGKOK, 31 January 2019: Emirates, the world’s largest Dubai-based international airline unveiled the top five most visited destinations by Thais who flew with the airline in 2018.

With growth in travel opportunities and disposable income, it is no surprise that Thai outbound travel was on the rise in 2018, estimated at 10 million Thais travelling overseas, according to the Thailand Outbound Travel Report 2018.

Emirates identifies the top five destinations based on the number of visits by Thais flying Emirates in 2018

The city offers a multi-faceted appeal that extends to more than just its architecture – with attractions for individual travellers, couples and families.

The city has a vibrant buzz and energy that provides a perfect contrast to the tranquillity of its desert retreats, golf courses, calm seas and beaches; together with historical sites such as the Al Fahidi Historical District. Thai visitors also enjoy the city’s mega malls packed with designer names and the traditional souks and vibrant markets. There is also the added allure of Michelin-starred restaurants for gourmet culinary lovers – as well as scores of independent restaurants with authentic flavours to explore that adds up to the over-all contrast and appeal.

Paris

The captivating French capital is home to some of the most iconic attractions in the world, from the Eiffel Tower to Notre Dame and the Champs-Elysées. There is also the appeal of the iconic Louvre, where the legendary Mona Lisa is housed. Visitors from Thailand especially enjoy the city for its endless array of brand name shops, home of Coco Chanel and many world renowned brands – along with a subculture of hip restaurants, cafes and galleries the lie beneath the surface of this beautiful city.

Zurich

The pedestrian-friendly city also offers a wealth of outdoor pursuits for much of the year, thus Thai visitors and locals alike can often be found on the enormous Lake Zürich or enjoying outdoor activities such as cycling and hiking in the summer, or day skiing in the winter. The city is also known for its sparkling restaurant scene – with many world-class Michelin-starred restaurants.

Moscow

The thrilling capital city of Russia situated on the Moskva River in the Central Federal District of European Russia – known for its rich artistry, history, majesty and the iconic architecture in historic buildings such as the Saint Basil’s Cathedral with its colourful architectural style. Thai travellers especially enjoy the country for its beautiful surroundings and the world-renowned Matryoshka doll aka The Russian Nesting Doll that is a must-have to complete a true Russian visit.

London

The dynamic city of unforgettable landmarks, including world-renowned names such as Buckingham Palace, Wembley Stadium, Big Ben, Regent’s Park, Camden Town, Notting Hill, the London Underground and the London Eye to name a few. Thai travellers often flock to London for its appeal of hidden gems in every corner that is complemented by varying styles of architecture from the classical beauty of St Paul’s Cathedral to the modern majesty of The Shard. London is also blessed with acres of green space, with Hyde Park and Regent’s Park – home to the world-famous London Zoo that offers a welcoming breather from the city.
