Vietnam extends visa-free

HANOI, 20 June 2017: Travellers from five European countries can continue to enjoy visa-free travel to Vietnam through to June 2018.

The five nationalities eligible for visa-free travel are:  the United Kingdom; France; Germany; Italy and Spain.

The visa-free provision is up and running and embassies have been notified so they can make announcements in the five nations to potential travellers and tour operators. Read more

Easy visas boost Vietnam’s tourism

HANOI, 12 June 2017: Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Department of Tourism says its electronic visa (eVisa) pilot scheme has already had a positive impact on Vietnam’s tourism since it was implemented in February this year.

Local media reported that the department released data, 30 May, showing 22,000 tourists from the United States, the United Kingdom,  Czech Republic, Germany, Ireland, Slovakia, Japan, Switzerland and China requested e-visas through the country’s immigration portal at https://www.immigration.gov.vn.

Some 21,000 tourists received e-visas, of which 12,000 have already entered the country. Read more

Vietnam’s visa-free travel up in the air

HANOI, 8 June 2017: Vietnam’s visa-free travel concession for five European nationalities will extended for another year after the initial trial period ends 30 June .

Citizens of France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom have been enjoying visa-free travel to Vietnam which has resulted in a boost to tourist arrivals.

An industry group called for a five-year extension to the visa waiver scheme for certain European tourists, just a week before the trial period expired. Read more

Taiwan extends visa free for Thais

BANGKOK, 27 April 2017: Good news for Thai travellers as Taiwan decides to extend visa-free visits for Thai passport holders for another year until the end of July 2018.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs Republic of China (Taiwan), the visa exemption that was offered to nationals of Thailand and Brunei will now be extended to 31 July, 2018.

Germany tops power passport list

SINGAPORE, 7 March 2017: Germans turn out to have the most powerful passport that grants the owner a visa-free or visa-on-arrival welcome in 157 countries worldwide.

According to the latest PassportIndex.Org data, Singapore overtook South Korea to take the second place with a visa-free score of 156, becoming the highest-ranked Asian passport.

South Korea fell to sixth place (152) while Japan rose to fourth place, tied with European countries such as Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and others whose visa-free score reached 154. Read more

EU demands the US eases visa rules

BANGKOK, 6 March 2017: A tit-for-tat policy maybe emerging between Europe and the Trump administration over a simmering dispute over visa-free travel.

In the latest round of sparring, the European Parliament says it will take a tough line with Washington demanding that the US extend visa-free travel to all 28 EU nations, rather than exclude five member nations.

Last Thursday, EU lawmakers voted in favour of ending the visa waiver for American travellers in a reaction to Trump’s tighter border control policies. Read more

Singapore: Asia’s top passport

MONTREAL, 16 January 2017: Singapore rises to second place worldwide in the latest Passport Index.

The index is presented as a real-time global web-based ranking of the world’s passports mainly on how many visa-free, or visa-on-arrival countries, can be visited by passport holders.

Bid to extend visa-free travel

HO CHI MINH CITY, 13 January 2017: Ho Chi Minh City’s Tourism Association has asked the government to extend the visa waiver for citizens of five western European nations at least until the end of June 2018.

Nationals of the five countries — United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain — currently enjoy visa-free travel for a 15-day stay until the ruling expires 30 July this year.

Saigon Times media quoted the association vice chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Khanh, saying: “We want the visa waiver to last at least until 30 June, next year, and hope the government will make a decision soon, so we can map out promotion programmes.” Read more

Kazakhstan goes visa-free

ASTANA, 5 January 2016: Kazakhstan said Tuesday it had lifted visa requirements for citizens of the European Union, OECD countries and a number of other states in a bid to boost investment and tourism.

Singaporean and Malaysian tourists will benefit from the visa-free travel option, the only two ASEAN nationalities identified on the exemption list.

The move, which follows a similar measure by neighbouring Uzbekistan, comes as Central Asia’s largest economy has been battered by low oil prices and financial distress in neighbouring Russia. Read more

MNA increases Singapore flights

YANGON, 10 November 2016: Myanmar National Airlines will add five weekly flights on its Yangon-Singapore route effective 1 December.

It already flies a daily service and the additions will give it 12 flights a week between the two destinations.

According to the airline, the additional flight will operate in the evenings,  Monday to Friday, together with its current daily service to meet travel demand. Read more
