CEO quits Malaysia Airlines

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 October 207: Malaysia Airlines CEO quit Tuesday to take a job at Ryanair, a fresh blow to the troubled Malaysian carrier which is still struggling to recover from twin disasters in 2014.

Peter Bellew has been appointed chief operations officer at the Irish airline, where he used to work, following a recent crisis that led to the cancellation of thousands of flights.

He was the third chief executive of Malaysia Airlines since 2014, when the company was plunged into crisis by the disappearance of flight MH370 and the downing of MH17 over Ukraine. Read more

MH signals return to Surabaya

KUALA LUMPUR, 31 August 2017: After an absence of five years, Malaysia Airlines will resume services between Kuala Lumpur and Surabaya in Indonesia, 29 October.

Effective with the winter scheduled 2017/18, which covers October through to March next year, the airline will offer four weekly flights using Boeing 737-800s.

Malaysia Airlines will face stiff competition from AirAsia, which has been serving the route with daily services for a considerable time. Read more

MH slashes fares

BANGKOK, 11 October 2016: Malaysia Airline is offering promotional fares for travel to selected destinations until the end of May, next year.

Bookings must be secured by 21 October.

The promotion sells a one-way fare, inclusive of airport taxes, fees and surcharges, ex-Bangkok, starting at THB2,625 to Kuala Lumpur. Read more

New boss for ailing Malaysia Airlines

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 July 2016: Malaysia Airlines, which has been struggling since twin disasters in 2014, has appointed a new CEO following the resignation of a trouble-shooter brought in to turn around the ailing carrier.

Peter Bellew, currently the airline’s chief operating officer and a former director of flight operations at Ryanair, will take over effective Friday.

“His appointment will ensure continuity and further progress of the overall restructuring effort,” state investment fund Khazanah Nasional said in a statement. Read more
