Langkawi hosts Miss Tourism contestants

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 November 2017: Malaysia is hosting the Miss Tourism International World Final for the 20th consecutive year, with contestants spotlighting the attractions of Langkawi Island during a three-day visit.

The annual event was first hosted in Kuching, Sarawak in 1994 and has earned the support of Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism and Tourism to make it a signature event in the country’s tourism calendar.

The 20th Miss Tourism International 2017 World Final is underway this week and will conclude 7 December, with the coronation night held on 6 December at the ballroom of the Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Kuala Lumpur. Read more

New ferry trip to Langkawi

SATUN, 20 November 2017: Tourism Malaysia hosted a launch ceremony for the Tammalang Ferry that should boost travel to Langkawi, one of Malaysia’s top island destinations.

Plans have been firmed up to promote travel tour packages for South Thailand residents that will feature a ferry trip to Langkawai.

Tourism Malaysia has appointed travel agents to sell holiday packages exclusively to residents in Thailand’s southern provinces. Read more

Last ditch stand to save PATA meet

LANGKAWI, 14 July 2017: Gaining the attention of Pacific Asia Travel Association members to attend a regional event, on Langkawai island, is proving to be an uphill struggle.

Malaysia’s PATA chapter wants to reintroduce an annual gathering of PATA members from the 10-member nations of ASEAN.

But it is proving to be a challenge to gain the attention of busy PATA members, who are probably overdosing on must-attend travel events. Read more

Langkawi introduces tourist levy

LANGKAWI, 15 July 2016: Langkawi Municipal Council’s tourism department has introduced a tourism promotion levy of between RM1 and RM9 on tourists for every day of their stay.

The fee is charged according to the standard of accommodation. Tourists staying in one-star or two-star hotels are charged RM1 per room per night; three-star or four-star accommodation, RM3; five-star, RM5; six-star, RM7; and seven-star accommodation, RM9.

Revenue from the TPL will help fund improvements to infrastructure, public facilities and services that support tourism. Read more

Langkawi celebrates Laksa carnival

LANGKAWI, 21 May 2015: Langkawi Development Authority will host the 4th Langkawi International Laksa Carnival (LILAC) 29 to 31 May at Laman Padi, Pulau Langkawi.

The “foodie” carnival will have a theme this year of “Sweet, Sour and Savoury”, to celebrate the variety of authentic laksa dishes as well as traditional desserts offered from different states in Malaysia and Asia.

LILAC 2015 is credited with being the only gastronomic event that celebrates the different types of Laksa available in Malaysia and Asia.
