TCT says confidence running high

BANGKOK, 29 September 2017: Confidence in Thailand’s tourism is running at an all-time high with the Tourism Council of Thailand claiming the year’s fourth quarter will see the confidence index rise to 103.

Normal business confidence has a benchmark of 100 and the third quarter index according to TCT clocked in at 98.

In its market outlook, presented Wednesday, TCT said quarter three confidence was impacted by concerns over the domestic economy, heavy flooding that disrupted tourism and trade, especially in the northeast region of the country, rising domestic costs and intensified competition in the travel trade. China outbound one PATA shelf

BANGKOK, 25 August 2017: Pacific Asia Travel Association is offering members access to a monthly China Outbound Tourism Price Index through its online store.

PATA members get to save USD900 for a report that has a USD5,999 price tag for 12 monthly editions.

Reputation counts in tourism

BANGKOK, 4 July 2017: After two years as a runner up, Canada is back as the leader of a ranking index of the world’s most reputed countries.

Reputation Institute released details of its 2017 Country RepTrak report, that claims to be the world’s largest annual survey of country reputations. It monitored 55 countries, worldwide, in its latest report.

Canada, with 82.8 RepTrak ‘pulse points’ (an indicator that quantifies esteem, admiration and good image that a country evokes), led the Country RepTrak report with the same number of points as Switzerland (difference is centesimal) and with three tenths more than Sweden. Read more

Thailand back on global retail index

BANGKOK, 22 June 2017: Thailand figures once more in the Global Retail Development Index (GRDI), released by management consulting firm AT Kearney earlier this month.

The GRDI, now in its 16th edition, ranks the top 30 developing countries for retail investment worldwide.

Thailand joined the ranking at 30th compared with third placed Malaysia and Vietnam ranked sixth. Read more

How US airlines score in consumer index

ANN ARBOR, MICH, US, 26 April 2017: Passenger satisfaction is up compared to a year ago, but airlines remain in the bottom third of industries tracked by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI).

As the legacy airlines lower their fares to compete with discount carriers, the industry gains 4.2% to 75 on a 100-point scale. The ACSI results are based on thousands of customer interviews conducted over 12 months, ending in March 2017.

United Airlines had the lowest score of all legacy airlines in the index. Read more

Japan the favourite for Thais

BANGKOK, 7 April 2017: Japan ranked as the top destination for Thai travellers in 2016 according to Hotels.com’s latest Hotel Price Index (HPI).

Released Tuesday, the index reported that Thai travellers spent 10% more when travelling to Japan and South Korea – their favourite destinations in 2016.

Japan’s Tokyo, Osaka and Sapporo were the three favourite destinations for Thai travellers. Read more

Time Out names fun cities

LONDON, 1 December 2016: Chicago, a city credited with having the highest murder rate in the US, has been declared the world’s most fun city to live in, while Melbourne comes in second, Lisbon third and New York fourth, according to the Time Out City Index.

The annual survey asked 20,000 people in 18 cities, worldwide, 80 questions to measure a city’s food and drink scene, inspiration, vibrancy, community, sociability and affordability.

Chicago came out top in the survey by Time Out, a global brand that claims it inspires and enables people to make the most of their city. Read more

Tokyo a favourite for Thai travellers.

BANGKOK, 16 February 2015: Tokyo remains the top holiday booking destination  for Thai travellers according to the latest Hotels.co assessment featured in its Hotel Price Index.

The latest survey from Hotels.com confirms that Tokyo is the favourite destination for Thais, ahead of Osaka (2), Singapore (3), Hong Kong (4), Seoul (5) and Kuala Lumpur (6).

Of the top 20 destinations appealing to Thai travellers in 2014, the Hotel.com index showed just four destinations outside of Asia. London was the highest ranked in seventh place followed by Paris in eighth place, New York (13) and Las Vegas (18).

Sanya’s hotels get the most likes

LONDON, 6 February 2015: Sanya on Hainam Island, China, has the most highly rated hotels in the world, according to the annual Reputation Ranking released by hotel comparison website trivago.co.uk.

In the UK, hotels were well down the ranking. York, Edinburgh and Liverpool stayed in the top 50, but Manchester and Birmingham were ranked near the bottom . London failed to make the list.

The list of 100 cities, which is published at the beginning of each year, ranks global destinations according to the reputation of their hotels.
