TCEB underwrites convention hosts

BANGKOK, 27 September 2016: Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau will concentrate on professional associations to bid for events in five key business sectors, according to its 2017 business plan.

The government’s Thailand 4.0 economic model aims to develop Thailand into a value-based economy, and high income country driven by creativity and innovations.

TCEB president, Nopparat Maythaveekulchai, confirmed  it the bureau will concentrate on five key industries; health and wellness; energy; food and agribusiness; infrastructure and logistics; and automotive and electronics. Read more

Siem Reap taps event business

SIEM REAP, 5 August 2016: The Sokha Convention Centre in Siem Reap is scheduled to open this September on a site next to the town’s largest hotel project.

Local media reported Sokha Hotels and Resorts will open the first convention centre in Siem Reap next month.

The Cambodian hotel chain says the convention centre will have 8,950 square metres of space on a site next to a 776-room resort complex that is due to open soon.  The enormous property stands close to the entrance of Angkor Wat, the kingdom’s biggest tourist attraction. Read more

Singapore boosts MICE

SINGAPORE, 11 July 2016: Singapore will host a slew of business events majoring in information and medical technology sectors.

Scheduled for 2016 and beyond, the technology-centric MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions & Exhibitions) events range from meetings to regional conventions making their debuts in Singapore.

Pattaya needs a remake

PATTAYA, 23 June 2016: I thought I would try to identify Pattaya-bound travellers while queuing at Suvarnabhumi airport’s Immigration counter. Not a difficult challenge if like me you have spent considerable time in Thailand’s eastern seaboard tourist trap.

I am tempted to say that most Pattaya travellers would fall short of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports’ Quality Tourism tag, but that would be unfair. They could be billionaires dressing down to a T-shirt and shorts, travelling incognito.

Pattaya is convinced that it has “reinvented” itself over the last decade and a testament to that sentiment is the increase in international hotel chains prepared to put their brand names to an assortment of new generation hotels. Read more

TCEB leads with MICE standards

BANGKOK, 2 February 2015: Thailand Covention and Exhibition Bureau has certified 42 event venues under its first Thailand MICE Venue Standard that will be a benchmark to improve quality.

TCEB’s Administration and Strategic Support vice president, Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, said the bureau prioritizes the importance of improving quality.

“To be able to compete in the international marketplace, quality products and services are key factors, especially following regional integration with the ASEAN Economic Community later this year.”
