DUBAI, 28 April 2017: Travel to Spain gets considerably easier now that Emirates will upgrade all of its Spain bound flights to A380 services.
In addition to the existing double daily A380 service to Barcelona, the airline will operate a double daily A380 service to Madrid, significantly boosting seat capacity from Dubai to Spain.
This change enables more A380 to A380 connections to and from key business and leisure destinations such as Australia, China, South Korea and Southeast Asia with just one stop in Dubai. Read more
BANGKOK, 28 April 2017: Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts has signed an agreement to manage its first resort in the Maldives.
The planned 105-unit resort, Mӧvenpick Resort & Spa Kuredhivaru Maldives, will be situated on the remote Kuredhivaru Island in Noonu Atoll in the northern part of the Maldives. It is scheduled to open during the second quarter of 2018.
The contemporary tropical resort will have 33 beach villas and 72 over water villas. Read more
DUBAI, 28 April 2017: Qatar Airways plans to introduce a fifth daily nonstop service from Doha to Bangkok effective 1June.
The increased frequency, along with its double-daily Phuket flights and the five-month-old Krabi operations (four flights a week), will take the number of weekly Qatar Airways departures from Thailand to Doha to 53.

LONDON, 28 April 2017: Hotels in Asia-Pacific saw average occupancy improve 3.3% to 68.3% during the first quarter of the year, according to data from STR.
STR said the hotel industry in the Asia Pacific region reported mostly positive results across three key performance metrics during the first quarter of 2017.
The data measures average occupancy; average daily rate and revenue per available room. Read more
BANGKOK, 28 April 2017: Dusit International has signed a hotel management agreement with Dhanasansombut Development Company to operate the first ever hotel in the heart of Bangkok’s world-famous Chatuchak Market.
Forming part of Dhanasansombut Development’s new mixed-use project, Mixt Chatuchak (www.mixtchatuchak.com), the new hotel will have approximately 250 rooms at a site located close to both both the MRT (Mo Chit Station) and BTS (Chatuchak Station) mass transit rail systems.
The two public transport systems provide easy access to all of Bangkok’s main attractions. Read more
MADRID, 28 April 2017: Chinese tourists spent 12% more when travelling abroad in 2016 according to the latest data from the UNWTO.
2016 results on expenditure from major outbound markets reflect increasing demand for international tourism across the world, as reported in the latest UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.
With a 12% increase in spending, China continued to lead international outbound tourism, followed by the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom and France as top five spenders. Read more
SYDNEY, 28 April 2017: Australians can now book nonstop flights from Australia to Europe for the first time, with tickets for Qantas’ Perth-London (Heathrow) route.
Sales opened on the new route Thursday.
Daily flights on the history-making route begin 24 March 2018 and form part of a new Melbourne-Perth-London return service. The services will be operated by Qantas’ new Boeing 787-Dreamliner. Read more
BANGKOK, 28 April 2017: World Travel & Tourism Council announced, Thursday, the Winners of the 2017 Tourism for Tomorrow Awards.
The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards honour “inspirational, world-changing tourism initiatives from all over the globe,” the WTTC announcement read.
Awards were presented in five categories, which reflected the WTTC’s aim of ‘balancing the interests of people, planet, and profits’. Read more
BANGKOK, 27 April 2017: “Is it Too Much to Ask?” was the opening line of the World Travel & Tourism Council president & CEO David Scowsill’s speech, at the WTTC Global Summit hosted in Bangkok, Wednesday.
Scowsill urged over 900 leading figures from the public and private sector to stand up and make a real difference, to think about ‘how we can be ‘Transforming our World’.
Scowsill called on the sector to lead the world in the “eradication of poverty, cleaning up the oceans, and protecting habitats”. Read more
BANGKOK, 27 April 2017: The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) announced Wednesday the departure of president & CEO David Scowsill, after six years at the helm of the organisation.
During his tenure as the third president in the 26 year history of WTTC, he has championed the private sector views in high level governmental discussions and promoting the sustainable growth of Travel & Tourism.
“It has been a privilege to lead WTTC, representing the global interests of the private sector of Travel & Tourism, through advocacy with governments around the world. The membership of the organisation has doubled in the last period, but more significant has been the work with governments at all levels on the key strategic issues for the sector,” said Scowsill.
