SINGAPORE, 4 July 2018: Asia-Pacific airlines and airports delivered impressive on-time results for the period June 2017 to May 2018, according to OAG’s On-time Performance (OTP) Star Ratings.
The OAG study identifies the punctuality performance of top airlines and airports, worldwide. It recognised 15 airlines awarding them five-star rating for punctuality

Newcomer to the list Korea’s T’Way Air topped the five-star ranking with an impressive on-time score of 95.6. Hong Kong Airlines gained the second five-star spot with a score of 92.4. In contrast at the bottom of the ranking, Air Inuit of Canada mustered just 41.6 on the OAG scale among one-star airlines.
If you are keen to fly with the most punctual airlines in Asia-Pacific then you would choose South Korea’s T’Way Air, Hong Kong Airlines Japan’s Fuji Dream Airlines, Star Flyer and Airdo and Australia’s Qantas that gained a score of 85.7.
Singapore-based low-cost carrier Jetstar Asia topped the four-star category with an OTP score of 85.0 ahead of Singapore Airlines that scored 83.8.
Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways were also among the 25 four-star airlines.
Other notably mentions in the four-star category were Indgo, the highest placed Indian Airline and Bangkok Airways, the only Thai airline with a four-star rating (80.7).
Thai AirAsia at 75.2 was the highest Thai low-cost airline. It figured in the three-star ranking, well ahead of the national airline Thai Airways International that scored an OTP of 69.6 landing it in the two-star collection, just ahead of neighbour Malaysia Airways.
Definitely out-classed for timeliness, AirAsia scored 66.4 languishing in the two-star class.
Japanese airports delivered impressive annual OTP results, with 19 airports achieving five-star status, including the large hubs of Osaka International Itami (88.2%) and Tokyo International Haneda (86.0%).
“With a frequently expanding range of flight routes and carriers to choose from for domestic, regional and global trips, Asian travellers carefully evaluate air travel options before booking, and punctuality is a crucial factor in their decision-making,” said, OAG regional sales director JAPAC, Mayur Patel. “With on-time punctuality considered a key indicator of service quality, many Asian airlines and airports are investing to improve their performance in order to retain passenger loyalty.”
How Is On-time Performance (OTP) Measured?
Airlines: On-time is defined as arrivals that take place strictly less than 15 minutes after scheduled arrival time, including cancellations.
Airports: On-time is defined as departures and arrivals that take place strictly less than 15 minutes after scheduled departure/arrival time, including cancellations.
OAG’s OTP Star Ratings meet two criteria: All airlines and airports must have a minimum of 600 operations a month and OAG must receive flight status information for 80% of scheduled flights within a 12-month period.
