Penang hosts luxury travel

GEORGETOWN, Penang, 16 October 2017: RHB Premier International Luxury Collections Week 2017, a three-day event, opens in Penang 27 October.

A grand opening ceremony will be held at 1100, 27 October, for VIPs, guests and media at the Atrium, Gurney, Paragon Mall, Penang.

The Luxury Collection Week will be officially opened by YB Danny Law Hen Kiang, Penng State Exco Member for Tourism Development and Culture. Read more

ONYX teams up with Yoo

BANGKOK, 11 October 2017:  ONYX Hospitality Group has sealed an agreement with UK-based YOO Hotels & Resorts to manage and develop the YOO Collection and Yoo2 hotel brands across Asia.

ONYX Hospitality Group role will be to introduce the two brands in key city and resort destinations in Asia.

The first YOO Asia hotels to be developed will be in Phuket and Bali, both scheduled to open in 2019. Read more

YOTEL yanks in investment dollars

LONDON, 27 September 2017: YOTEL announced, Tuesday, that a fund affiliated with Starwood Capital Group, has committed to making a strategic investment of USD250 million in YOTEL, including acquiring a 30% stake in the company.

Funds will be used to invest in real estate acquisitions for new build, hotel conversions and adaptive reuse properties as YOTEL expands internationally.

Starwood’s investment will enable expansion in Europe, North America and Asia. Read more

Campaign for holiday fair prices

PHNOM PENH, 19 September, 2017L Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism issued an advisory, last week, to hotels and tour companies, calling on them not to inflate prices during public holidays.

The directive was signed by Tourism Minister, Thong Khon, who warned hospitality services such as restaurants, resorts and hotels not to take advantage of domestic tourists.

Khmer Times, at the weekend, reported the campaign for fair prices would focus on Sihanoukville. a popular coastal destination a four-hour drive from the capital. Read more

Yotel urban hotels sized down

SINGAPORE, 18 September 2017: YOTEL Singapore opens it doors 1 October, but bookings are already open for what will be a luxury cabin stay.

Its creators say the cabin concept gives travellers a compact version of luxury reminiscence of a first class cabin on an airline.

In its introductory press statement, YOTEL adds that the concept transfers the luxury airline travel experience into small, but luxurious ‘cabins’. Read more

More luxury for Accor

SINGAPORE, 4 September 2017: AccorHotels is strengthening its Asia Pacific presence with six confirmed luxury and upscale openings in the next three months.

The upcoming openings will see the expansion of the Sofitel and Pullman brands, which fall under AccorHotels’ luxury and upscale collection. Raffles Hotel, Fairmont, MGallery by Sofitel, Swissôtel and Grand Mercure brands, complete the group’s high-end offerings.

The first of the region’s openings was the Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, which launched late August, with 312 rooms in the heart of the Malaysian capital. Read more

LONDON, 5 June 2017: A good night’s sleep proves to be most important factor for US and European consumers purchasing a luxury travel experience according to a survey of consumer sentiment regarding luxury travel.

The findings are featured in a Travelzoo and Global Hotel Alliance joint survey of 4,800 people chosen from their respective membership bases.

India’s trains go up-market
