Lion flies to Changsha

BANGKOK, 8 August 2017: Thai Lion Air will launch flights from Bangkok to Changsha in China effective 1 September.

According to the airline’s website, the new route will be served with four weekly flights departing Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, using a Boeing 737.

The service should be packed with Chinese tourist heading from Changsha, the capital of Hunan province in south central China for holidays starting in Bangkok. Read more

Lion Air clips a wing

JAKARTA, 4 August 2017: Two passenger planes collided at an airport in the Indonesian city of Medan on Thursday, an airline spokesman said, the latest incident to hit the country’s beleaguered aviation sector.

A Boeing aircraft operated by Lion Air was taxying along the runway after landing at Kualanamu airport on the island of Sumatra when it clipped the wing of a Wings Air craft waiting to depart for Meulaboh in Aceh province.

No one was injured in the incident and authorities are investigating the cause of the collision. Read more

Lion Air to tap India’s tourist market

SINGAPORE, 5 July 2017: Lion Air will launch a daily service, 10 July, from Jakarta to Cenai in India, with a stop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the way.

The airline said it was confident the route would attract more tourists to Indonesia.

Initially, the daily flight will make a transit stop in Kuala Lumpur, but ultimately the objective is to serve Cenai with a nonstop service. Read more

Lion doubles flights to Udon

HAT YAI, 11 November 2016: Thai Lion Air will double flights between the southern Thai town of Hat Yai and Udon Thani in Northeast Thailand.

Flights will increase from three to six flight weekly starting 17 November.

The additional flight will serve tourists visiting Northeast Thailand and also those who are heading to Vientiane the capital of Lao PDR, which is a 100-km drive north of Udon Thani airport crossing the border at Nong Khai. Read more

Lion lands in HCMC

BANGKOK, 11 October 2016: Thai Lion Air will commence daily flights between Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam starting 28 October.

Vietnam is a growing travel market for both inbound and outbound traffic attracting a variety of low-cost airlines keen to tap  leisure travel potential.

Lion Air’s fares on the Ho Chi Minh City route will compete head-on with Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Airways International as well as Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air. Read more

Lion flies to Yangon

BANGKOK, 21 June 2016: Thai Lion Air will commence two daily flights linking Bangkok (Don Mueang Airport) to Yangon in Myanmar effective 22 July.

The new service will competed head-on with Thai AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai Airways International, Thai Smile and Bangkok Airways, all vying for business in a market with an oversupply of airline seats.

According to Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation’s analysis, the Bangkok-Yangon route will not be an easy market for Thai Lion, given the already intense competition. Read more
