ITB Asia to beef up buyers list in 2018

SINGAPORE, 29 November 2017: ITB Asia has recruited the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) to boost the show’s corporate travel buyer attendance in 2018.

The deal makes ACTE, which has representation in 100 countries, the corporate travel association partner for ITB Asia 2018.

ACTE joins ITB Asia’s other buyers programme partners to assist in attracting  quality buyers and corporate travel managers to attend the show. Read more

Airbnb enters work space

BANGKOK, 14 September 2017: Airbnb, a so-called community-driven hospitality company, announced it has signed leading companies in Asia Pacific to boost its business travel sector bookings.

Among the latest signings is  Hyundai Motor Company, Culture Convenience Club Co Ltd, which will offer Airbnb home sharing within its corporate travel options.

The Global Business Travel Association estimates that APAC accounts for the largest proportion (40%)[1] of the global USD$1.2 trillion business travel spend, and with overall market expected to grow by 3.7% per year over the next decade. Read more

Q&A: Events business pursues quality

BANGKOK, 16 August 2017: Thailand has identified the pursuit of quality tourism as its strategic goal in a bid to shift the emphasis from counting tourist arrivals to building revenue, length of stay and offering upscale travel experiences.

MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) is viewed as the travel segment that will help Thailand do just that, as well as ensuring it can rise through the ranks to become the leader in ASEAN’s highly competitive events business.

ATTA rolls out training modules

BANGKOK, 3 August 2017: Association of Thai Travel Agents will organise 12 training programmes for the remaining months of this year as a part of its policy to build skills for member travel agencies.

ATTA’s recently elected committee is now moving ahead on its promised policy to improve HR capital through digital marketing training courses.

The association says it will organise 12 training programmes August through to December; four events per months all open to members. Read more

TripAdvisor executive heads PATA board

BANGKOK, 25 May 2017: Pacific Asia Travel Association announced the appointment of Sarah Mathews, TripAdvisor’s head of destination marketing in Asia Pacific,  based in Hong Kong SAR as the new chairperson of its executive board.

She replaces Andrew Jones, who was elected chairman in May 2016 and remains a member of the executive board as its immediate past chairman.

Mathews has been an active PATA member since TripAdvisor joined the Association in 2012, attending nearly all PATA events as either a speaker or delegate. Read more

Phuket spawns new hotel group

PHUKET, 20 December 2017: Around 50 hoteliers have joined the recently formed Phuket Hotels Association, which is due to be officially launched at the up-coming Thailand Tourism Forum in January.

Reporting on the association’s progress, C9 Hotelworks CEO,  Bill Barnett, in his latest newsletter said the association had “quickly caught the attention of key players in the hotel industry on the island, reaching its target of 50 member hotels.”

Heading the association, as its founding president, is Trisara’s general manager, Anthony Lark, a veteran hotelier who has opened various upscale resorts on the island. Read more

Cruise executive captains Skål

She joins Skål from Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd Pullmantur, where she held the position of marketing and revenue manager.

Vietnam opens tourism training association

HO CHI MINH CITY, 3 August 2016: Vietnam established, Monday, a tourism training association to foster manpower development in the industry.

Local media reported the association, founded by the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA), gathers together under a single umbrella universities, colleges, vocational schools, research agencies, businesses and organisations specialising in tourism.

It aims to assist members to develop tourism skills through training, attract travel companies and create tourism skill standards for the industry. Read more

Yangon to tackle taxi woes

YANGON, 28 June 2016: Yangon will establish a city taxi association to increase safety and security for passengers using its members’ services.

Global New Light of Myanmar quoted Yangon regional chief minister, U Phyo Min Thein, saying the City Taxi Association will be founded in Yangon to ensure the security of tourists and local passengers.

Currently, taxis running in Yangon are considered unsafe and without supervisory procedures, The new associations would monitor drivers through GPS tracking, the report said. Read more
