Malaysia embarks on China roadshow

PUTRAJAYA, 29 August 2019: Tourism Malaysia and Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association (MICA) embarked on a tourism roadshow in China this week to draw more Chinese tourists to the country.

Targetting two “second and third-tier” cities, the team networked with leading outbound tour operators in Chengdu and Lanzhou, 27 to 29 August.

Tourism Malaysia Chairman, YBhg. Datuk Ahmad Shah Hussein Tambakau and MICA President, Dato’ Dr Angie Ng, the Malaysian led the delegation of 23 Malaysian organisations comprising of travel agents, tourism product owners, hoteliers and Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) agents.

Roadshow presentations updated  Chinese agents about tourism developments in Malaysia and the upcoming Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign.

Malaysia’s promotions are now reaching out to second-tier cities such as Chengdu and third-tier cities like Lanzhou.

The VM2020 campaign has set a target of 30 million international tourist arrivals and of that total Chinese tourists could exceed 3.48 million by the close of 2020.

For the first half of 2019, tourist arrivals from China registered 1.55 million compared with 1.46 million for the same period in 2018, an increase of 6.4%.  Last year, Malaysia welcomed 2.94 million Chinese tourists.

Currently, there are daily flights on AirAsiaX and four weekly flights on Malindo Air connecting Kuala Lumpur and Chengdu as well as four weekly flights on AirAsiaX connecting Kuala Lumpur to Lanzhou.
These direct flights will enhance promotional efforts by the government and make Malaysia easier for residents of Chengdu and Lanzhou to visit Malaysia.
