BANGKOK, 27 June 2012: Ministry of Tourism and Sports reported, Tuesday, 5,397,248 Thais travelled overseas in 2011 representing a slight increase of 1.11% over 5,338,127 trips in 2010.
But Thai outbound travel was stunned by the worst flooding in the central plains in five decade that cut back both the desire and cash capability to travel, the ministry noted in its assessment.
Ministry data showed that Malaysia continued as the most popular destination driven by short overland trips from southern provinces to destinations in northern Malaysia for shopping and trade.
India to curb official foreign trips
NEW DELHI,21 May 2012 (AFP) – India has outlined plans to curb government foreign trips as part of an austerity drive and says it is “vigorously” committed to curtailing ballooning spending.
The statement late Friday came as India’s currency slumped to a new record low against the dollar with investor risk-aversion amplifying pressure on the rupee, already hit by worries about a slowing domestic economy.
“The government is committed to carry on the process of fiscal consolidation vigorously,” junior finance minister Namo Narain Meena told parliament in a written statement.
