Asia sustains Thai travel agency bookings

BANGKOK, 8 December 2017:  Thailand’s inbound tour companies are enjoying a 5.76% increase in clients using their ground services, January through to 30 November.

The latest data from the Association of Thai Travel agents shows member companies handled 5,330,881 clients at Bangkok’s two gateway airports.

ATTA does not provide figures for clients handled at airports elsewhere in the country. Read more

Airbnb sees ‘experiences’ take shape

BANGKOK, 28 November 2017: Airbnb has opened for bookings three new Asia Pacific trips ‘experiences’ in Melbourne, Bali, and Hong Kong.

Launched globally in November 2016, there are now more than 3,100 Airbnb Experiences offered in over 40 cities, worldwide, 600 of which are in APAC.

Airbnb Experience hosts have earned more than THB204 million to date, while  booked Experiences in APAC have grown 14 times since January 2017. Tokyo is one of the top five most popular global markets for bookings. Read more

Thailand’s outbound travel grows

BANGKOK, 15 August 2017: Thai Travel Agents Association estimates Thais travel overseas will reach 8.5 million visits by this the end of this year.

TTAA’s president, Suparerk Soorangura, told TTR Weekly that the number of Thais make overseas trips this year will continue to grow from 7.9 million visits last year.

TTAA’s members are made up of tour companies that sell holiday packages to overseas destinations. Read more

Faster finds on TripAdvisor

Now travellers can more easily plan every aspect of their trip on the TripAdvisor app, including finding low prices for the right hotel, as well as get the best value on flights, holiday rentals, restaurants and other things to do in-destination. With advice from millions of global travellers, the newly redesigned app empowers travellers with the insights they need to make informed travel choices with the confidence they will have a great trip.

Singaporean mobile travel savvy

SINGAPORE, 3 May 2017: With one in five online travel transactions already made on mobile in 2016, mobile travel sales will continue to grow and present the biggest opportunity for travel companies, according to Criteo, a performance marketing technology company.

It released its latest findings, last week based on a Criteo-commissioned study by Euromonitor International on mobile use in travel.

Euromonitor International surveyed 150 Singaporeans to analyse the online travel landscape, as well as browsing and purchase behaviours in Singapore to help travel businesses and online travel agents (OTAs) identify digital strategies to engage travellers throughout their purchase journey. Angkor a bargain for Singaporeans

SINGAPORE, 5 January 2017: Visiting Angkor Wat tops the best value experience of a lifetime list for Singaporean travellers, according to the inaugural TripIndex Experiences of a Lifetime, a cost comparison study by travel planning and booking site, TripAdvisor.

While exploring Angkor Wat comes out as the cheapest of all the top experiences of a lifetime for Singaporeans, the study also revealed that travellers who plan ahead can save up to 83% on tours and hotels making the pricier experiences of a lifetime much more affordable.

Conducted in partnership with independent research firm Kantar TNS, the study outlines the cost per day for two people to take a trip to experience 10 of the world’s most popular once-in-a-lifetime experiences, taking into account the cost of a return flight, return airport transfer, a stay in a four-star hotel, dinner and a day tour of the experience of a lifetime. Cambodia’s tourism expands

PHNOM PENH, 20 December 2016: Cambodia’s tourist arrivals improved 4.4%, January to October, this year, according to the latest data from the Statistics and Tourist Information Department.

Released by the Ministry of Tourism, late last week, the report indicated the country welcomed 3,922,492 international travellers compared to 3,755,792 during the same period last year.

Outbound trips by Cambodians reached 1,182,670 up 20.0% for the first 10 months of the year from 985,739 trips last year. Read more

Airbnb adds Trips to homes

LOS ANGELES, 21 November 2016: Airbnb says it is moving beyond accommodation to launch a new service called Trips.

In its launch announcement late last week Airbnb claimed it was the most significant development in its eight-year history.

The booking channel is best known for its pioneering inventory of homes rented out by owners to holiday makers as an alternative to staying in a hotel.

Europeans play safe

BERLIN, 21 November 2016: Low growth in European outbound trips and stagnating beach holiday volumes are just two of the key market factors identified in the latest World Travel Monitor.

Europeans changed their travelling habits this year by opting for safe destinations. There has also been a stagnation in sun and beach holidays, but an increase in city breaks the report states.

European destinations have reported mixed results and welcomed fewer Asian visitors this year. Read more

Thailand reaches 19.5 million trips

BANGKOK, 24 August 2016: Ministry of Tourism and Sports reports international visits to Thailand exceeded 19.53 million, an improvement of 11.87% during January to July, this year.

Released last week, the ministry’s data showed the country attracted 19,538,190 international visits during the first seven months of this year, compared to 17,465,861 visits during the same period last year.

The data is based on foreign passport, or ID holders, passing through international checkpoints (land, sea and air).
