SINGAPORE, 9 November 2017:  Changes to Singapore’s already strict laws governing travel agencies were passed by parliament, earlier this week.

They are designed to rid the trade of rogue agents and protect travel consumers.

Amendments to the Travel Agents Act and Regulations were ratified, Tuesday, and will be effective from January 2018. Read more

Singapore reports robust event bookings

SINGAPORE, 4 October 2017: Singapore has successfully secured hosting for eight large congresses and tradeshows this year.

The events will draw an estimated additional 20,000 visitors to the city. The first one, Tea and Coffee World Cup, was hosted at the end of September, while the remaining seven events will be hosted through to 2024.

From world congresses to regional exhibitions and conferences, most of the events will take place for the first time in Southeast Asia or Asia. Read more

Alipay and STB improve travel content

HANGZHOU, 27 September 2017: Alipay, a popular online and mobile payment platform for Chinese tourists, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU​​​​​) with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) to improve content and information for Chinese tourists.

Under the MOU, Alipay and STB will cross-share relevant content about Singapore on both Alipay’s platforms and STB’s Tourism Information and Services Hub (TIH)[1].

This aims to increase exposure for Singapore’s offerings from various tourism businesses and provide Chinese tourists better information access before and during their trips to Singapore. Read more

Steady tourism growth for Singapore

SINGAPORE, 6 July 2017: Following a positive performance in 2016, tourist arrivals to Singapore improved 4.4% during the first four months of 2017 to reach 5.79 million.

In 2016, tourist arrivals grew 8% to 16.4 million and tourism receipts by 13% to SGD24.6 billion.

Preliminary figures, released by the Singapore Tourism Board last week, indicated that of the 5.79 million arrivals January to April, 1.1 million visits came from China.

Singapore Food Festival 14 to 30 July

SINGAPORE, 28 June 2017: The Singapore Food Festival 2017 is back for its 24th edition.

Taking place from 14 to 30 July, locals and visitors alike can look forward to a spread of both traditional and contemporary Singaporean flavours, interpreted through the palates of  home-grown culinary heroes.

STB confirms MISA’s fate

SINGAPORE, 27 June 2017: Singapore Tourism Board issued a Confirmation of Revocation last week on the defunct MISA Travel Ptd Ltd, officially withdrawing the company’s licence under the Travel Agent Act.

The tour company ceased operations in May and was served notice of revocation by the STB, 31 May. The company was given the right to appeal by 21 June, or face the loss of its licence.

STB at the time it served notice said MISA Travel had ceased to carry on the business of a travel agent and was unable to fulfill its obligations towards its customers. Read more

STB rejigs travel agents act

SINGAPORE, 23 June 2017: Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry and the Singapore Tourism Board are seeking feedback on proposed amendments to the Travel Agents Act and Regulations.

The public consultation exercise will run through to 12 July.

The review of the Travel Agents Act and Regulations is part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the regulatory framework and facilitate a pro-business environment in the travel agents industry as well as enhance consumer protection (1).  Read more

Awards night in Singapore

SINGAPORE, 5 May 2017: Thirty-one individuals and organisations were recognised, Thursday evening, for exceptional achievements at the Singapore Tourism Awards 2017.

Organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and held at Shangri-La Hotel, the Singapore Tourism Awards’ presentation ceremony was presided over by Trade and Industry Minister S Iswaran.

STB chief executive Lionel Yeo said: “The Singapore Tourism Awards aim to raise industry standards by showcasing the best of what Singapore has to offer.” Read more

CAG, SIA and STB beef up partnership

SINGAPORE, 19 April 2017: Singapore’s big three, Changi Airport Group, Singapore Airlines and Singapore Tourism Board, have extended their joint partnership for another three years funded by a record SGD33.75 million investment.

The joint promotional fund will be used to sell Singapore as an attractive stopover and twin it with other destinations in the region.(1)

Efforts will focus on promoting Singapore as a stopover or twinning destination to travellers globally. The previous approach targeted just travellers from specific long-haul markets such as the US and Europe. Read more

Singapore hits a record

SINGAPORE, 16 February 2017: Singapore’s tourist visitor receipts surpassed earlier forecasts to hit historical highs in 2016, Singapore Tourism Board reported Tuesday.

While visits grew by 7.7% to 16.4 million, tourism receipts rose even higher by 13.9% to SGD24.8 billion.

The strong tourism receipt results came on the back of visitors spending more on food and beverage, shopping and accommodation. Read more
