Nok nests in top 10

BANGKOK, 3 August 2017: Nok Air has recently named for the third time in the ‘Top 10 Budget Airlines’ list of the annual Smart Travel Asia 2017 Best in Travel Poll.

Nok Air is the only low-cost carrier from Thailand that has been voted among the top 10 budget airlines.  The carrier ranked in seventh place together with Spicejet.

Other budget airlines on the list were: Jetstar Asia; Indigo; AirAsia; Scoot and Hong Kong Express, Cebu Pacific; Tiger Airways; Spicejet; Peach and Jin Air. Read more

Travellers’ poll names top airlines

BANGKOK, 13 July 2017: Singapore Airlines swept all airline categories in the annual SmartTravelAsia Best in Travel Poll.

Conducted annually since 2004 the online magazine’s awards are based on votes by readers, who have made more than 12 trips a year and have an income of more than USD156,000.

Singapore Airlines swept the board winning Best Airline Worldwide, Best Business Class and Best Cabin Service. Read more

Best cities for a gay holiday

BERLIN, 30 June 2017: Madrid came out top in the 2017 Best LGBT Cities List followed closely by Amsterdam in second place and Toronto, Canada in third, according to the the study carried out by Berlin-based Nestpick.

Madrid scored 23.56 out of a maximum score of 25.

With the exception of Tel Aviv in fourth place all of the top 10 LGBT cities were in Europe and North America. Read more

Haze haunts the North

CHIANG MAI, 29 March 2017: The annual smog, or smoke haze, is turning into a major deterrent persuading travellers to scratch North Thailand off their travel plans, according to the Economics Research and Agricultural Forecasting Centre (Maejo Poll).

Released last week, the research focused on 1,015 Thai travellers who had visited Chiang Mai during 20 February to 5 March this year.

72.88% of interviewees said they had experience severe haze, while 27.12% said they had not been aware of it when visiting Chiang Mai. Read more

Thailand in the top five for food

BANGKOK, 15 August 2016: Thailand figured fourth on the CNN’s top 10 foodie destinations worldwide.

Released recently, the CNN poll praised Thailand for having the “best of many worlds” in foodie delights.

CNN editors noted: “The combination of so many herbs and spices in each dish produces complex flavours that somehow come together like orchestral music.” Read more

Poll on inflight behaviour

NEW YORK, 22 June 2016: US airline travellers were polled recently on how they would react to uncomfortable situations on flights.

If faced with an inflight scuffle between passengers over 73% of travellers polled said they would call the flight attendant and leave it to them to end the conflict. Only 7.8% said they would step in and try to defuse the situation, while 4.6% said they would sit still and look the other way.

Travel Leaders Group polled 3,431 Americans travellers, last April asking the question “What would you do?” when faced with a variety of negative situations. Read more

Men old fashioned about travel

SINGAPORE, 21 October 2015: Some say men are from Mars and women are from Venus – but how different are they when it comes to travelling?

In the latest poll by ZUJI, a leading online travel agency in Asia, 88% women were found to do their vacation research through travel sites or blogs, like ZUJI Passport, as compared to less than half of men (42%).

In contrast, men (52%) seem more comfortable gathering insights from family and friends compared to women (7%).

Tighten the belt and travel

NEW YORK, 27 May 2015: Summer travel on US airlines will reach an all-time high this year, and a recent Harris Poll sees similar highs ahead for the US travel industry.

Nearly seven in 10 Americans (68%) have at least one leisure trip planned for the summer  (May through August), a slight increase from the 66% last year and an overall steady growth rate since the six in ten (60%) who planned a trip three years ago for summer 2012.

Americans’ outlook on the economy isn’t acting as a barrier when it comes to summer travel. More than half of Americans (53%) say their outlook has no impact on their likelihood to travel this summer – an overall 13% improvement from when this question was first asked six years ago (40% in 2009) – and an additional 9% say their outlook on the economy will make them more likely to travel.
