HANOI, 18 January 2017: Vietnam Tourism Association estimates around 6.5 million Vietnamese travelled overseas, last year, an increase of 15% from 2015 and spent around USD7 to USD8 billion.
Local media quoted the association vice chairman, Vu The Binh, saying the association based its estimate on data from tourism authorities in popular destinations that attract Vietnamese tourists such as Thailand, Singapore, China, South Korea and Japan.
“Outbound travel is on the rise, leading to a large pickup in spend…the outbound travel segment is now a strong source of income for many travel agents.” Read more
BANGKOK, 17 January 2017: Thailand’s outbound travel market will generate 9.1 million trips, annually, over the next five years, according to Mastercard’s latest report, Future of Outbound Travel in Asia Pacific 2016 to 2021.
According to the report, Thailand is among Asia Pacific’s emerging markets that will see a significant growth in outbound travel, but the report shows that it far from being a star performer and lags behind its neighbours.
Thailand’s outbound travel market seriously under performs when compared with neighbours, Singapore and Malaysia, that have smaller populations, but more trips. Read more
BANGKOK, 15 December 2016: Singapore Airlines offers promotional fares for passengers who are 55 years or older and pay with their Mastercard.
The promotion is valid for flights up to 31 March, next year, but bookings must be finalised by the end of this month.
All the Fares are valid for flights departing Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Samui, except for Singapore which applies to Bangkok departures only. Read more

BANGKOK, 4 October 2016: When you count the sheer volume of overnight tourist arrivals Bangkok is the top city, worldwide, according to the sixth annual Mastercard Global Destinations Cities Index.
Released in last month, the index ranks 132 cities, worldwide, based on the tourist arrivals count.
According to the study, Bangkok will accommodate 21.47 million tourist arrivals this year. The count does not take into account purpose of visits and is entirely based on reported data provided by authorities. In the case of Bangkok, the figure is based on Immigration Bureau passport checks at the city’s two international airports. Read more

BANGKOK, 24 June 2016: Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya rank among the top 10 destinations for Chinese tourists this year in Asia Pacific, according to MasterCard Asia Pacific Destinations Index 2016.
According to the index, released earlier this week, China will continue to contribute the largest share of tourists to Asia Pacific in 2016.
It estimates that 50.4 million tourists from China will visit destinations across Asia Pacific this year, making up 15.7% of all international overnight arrivals in the region, it said. Read more
BANGKOK, 4 April 2016: Malaysia remains the top destination for Muslim travellers, according to MasterCard–Crescent Rating Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2016.
The index said Malaysia and Singapore retained their positions as top destinations for the Muslim travel market, in OIC and non-OIC categories. (There are 57 member nations of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.) The overall study covered 130 destinations a mix of OIC and non-OIC nations.
Malaysia took the first place out of all the 57 Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) destinations with the UAE moving up one spot to second place. Read more
SINGAPORE, 23 July 2015: MasterCard has just launched yet another prepaid card in Myanmar, this time with Myanma Apex Bank Limited (MAB Bank).
Its launch comes exactly three years on from the lifting of sanctions in Myanmar and affirms MasterCard’s commitment to provide safer and easier ways for Myanmar residents to pay for their travels.
The new prepaid card is also timely given the latest MasterCard survey on consumer purchasing priorities in travel indicates that three out of five Myanmar consumers surveyed intend to travel within the next 12 months (either as much, or more than they did in the past 12 months).
