Buyers will strip Alitalia assets

ROME, 18 October 2017: British budget airline easyJet and German carrier Lufthansa both said Monday they have submitted offers for parts of Italy’s ailing Alitalia.

The stricken carrier said that it had received seven binding offers in all, without providing details.

The easyJet and Lufthansa proposals will spark disappointment in Italy, which wants to sell Alitalia in one package to avoid mass job losses. Read more

Colosseum opens top levels

ROME,  5 October 2017: The highest level of Rome’s ancient Colosseum will be opened to the public for the first time in 40 years, 1 November, Italy’s culture minister said, Tuesday.

Seats on the fifth level of the amphitheatre were once reserved for ancient Roman society’s lowest commoner: the plebeian.

But the seats boasted a breathtaking view — not only of the gladiator battles far below, but of the heart of the empire. Read more

Venice Carnival attracts tourists

VENICE, 15 February 2017: The Carnival of Venice, which each year draws thousands of tourists and revellers dressed in masks and period costume, got under way in the iconic Italian city at the weekend with a stunning show staged on its famous canals.

The show, celebrating “the beauty, the sea and the vanity,” according to organisers, provided the grand opening for one of the world’s most celebrated carnivals, which will run this year until 28 February.

Some of the performers, sporting blue butterfly wings, appeared to be suspended in the air as gondoliers carried torches below. Read more

Thailand tastes in Italian

BANGKOK, 25 February 2015: The Tourism Authority of Thailand recently launched an Italian language magazine called “Taste of Thailand” to promote travel from Italy and help train travel agents and inform consumers.

TAT is the first tourism board in Italy to launch its own official print magazine dedicated to a single European market.

The magazine will serve the dual purpose of teaching Italian tourists and tour operators about Thailand’s destinations and tour products. It will also serve as a training guide for travel agents.
