Carnival picks up ASTA award

SAN DIEGO, 31 August 2017: Carnival Corporation  was honored by the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA) with the 2017 ASTA Supplier Partner of the Year Award for its commitment to travel agents.

ASTA’s president and CEO, Zane Kerby, presented the cruise-line company with the award at the ASTA Global Convention 2017 in San Diego following a keynote address by Carnival Corporation president and CEO, Arnold Donald, during which he highlighted the key role of travel agents in growing demand for cruise vacations in North America.

The ASTA Supplier Partner of the Year Award was established to recognise the partner who has impressed the agency community most by offering the best service and by helping agencies with attractive agency compensation and creative pricing. Read more

Disney characters join springtime carnival

HONG KONG, 16 March 2017: Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is launching its first-ever character-themed springtime celebrations, the Disney Friends Springtime Carnival to attract family travel from around Asia.

From today 16 March to 28 May, more than 100  Disney Friends will appear across the resort in various forms, ensuring this spring has a carnival spirit.

Festival: Venice Carnival opens

VENICE, 21 February 2017: Tens of thousands of revellers in masks and period costume packed St Mark’s Square on Sunday for the “flight of the angel”, the traditional opening of the Venice Carnival.

On the 12th chime of midday from St Mark’s Campanile, Claudia Marchiori descended gracefully from the famous bell tower, attached to a wire 80 metres (260 feet) above the crowd that had gathered for one of the world’s most famous carnivals.

Dressed in a leviathan purple gown with orange wings, she sprinkled glitter and confetti to the tune of “Wicked Game”, the 1989 song by American rock musician Chris Isaak. Read more

Venice Carnival attracts tourists

VENICE, 15 February 2017: The Carnival of Venice, which each year draws thousands of tourists and revellers dressed in masks and period costume, got under way in the iconic Italian city at the weekend with a stunning show staged on its famous canals.

The show, celebrating “the beauty, the sea and the vanity,” according to organisers, provided the grand opening for one of the world’s most celebrated carnivals, which will run this year until 28 February.

Some of the performers, sporting blue butterfly wings, appeared to be suspended in the air as gondoliers carried torches below. Read more

PUTRAJAYA, 30 June 2015: Malaysia’s biggest shopping extravaganza –– the annual 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival and 1Malaysia Unified Sale –– are back again, offering huge discounts and promotional activities put together by malls, retail stalls and other participating retailers throughout Malaysia.

Running for over two months until 31 August, this year there is also the added attraction of Ramadan food bazaars. Street bazaars and shopping malls are also hyping up with numerous offers for the upcoming Hari Raya celebrations and the Merdeka Day public holiday.

The sales events were launched 27 June by the secretary-general of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Tan Sri Dr. Ong Hong Peng at the Marriot Putrajaya Hotel.

Grand Prix with a family theme

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 March 2015: The Sepang International Circuit will host the 17th edition of Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix™ 27 to 29 March.

The grand prix is the second round of the 2015 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.

SIC chairman, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir, said in conjunction with the Malaysia Year of Festival 2015 the F1 Grand Prix programme is now firmly embedded.
