Accor expands Myanmar portfolio

YANGON, 4 July 2017: AccorHotels and LP Holding have signed a joint agreement to develop three new hotels in Myanmar; one in Yangon and two in Mandalay, the country’s second largest city.

The partnership will see the opening of Mercure Mandalay Hill Resort and Pullman Yangon Centrepoint this year and Mandalay Hill Resort MGallery by Sofitel in 2020.

“We are very pleased to partner with LP Holding with the development of these three new properties in Myanmar. The three hotels are situated in strategic locations in Yangon and Mandalay, for tourists and business guests alike,” said, AccorHotels, upper southeast and northeast Asia chief operating officer Patrick Basset. Thai AirAsia adds Mandalay flights

BANGKOK, 19 January 2017: Thai AirAsia will increase flights on the Bangkok-Mandalay route to twice daily starting 17 March.

The airline’s commercial director, Santisuk Klongchaiya, said direct flights to Myanmar’s second largest city are busy as more Thai people travel to the country mainly on Buddhist pilgrimage holidays.

There is also strong medical tourism traffic out of Mandalay heading to Bangkok’s top hospitals. Visa-free travel between the two countries (airline passengers only) has encouraged travel agents to organise holiday packages in both directions. Read more

MAI offers deal on Mandalay route

BANGKOK, 17 June 2016: Myanmar Airways International launches promotional fares on its new route, Bangkok-Mandalay, for travel through September to late October.

The airline will launch the new service, 1 September, with three weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday using an Airbus A319.

The promotion sets a one-way fare, ex-Bangkok, at THB3,500 to Mandalay, the former royal capital of Myanmar. The fare includes all taxes and a baggage allowance of 30 kg. Read more
