Cable cars could beat the traffic

HO CHI MINH CITY, 19 January 2017: A cable car transfer has been proposed to ease congestion on the approach to Tan Son Nhat International Airport on the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City.

Local media reported the project developer, Vu Huy Thang, had proposed building a cable-propelled transit system for passengers to reach Tan Son Nhat International Airport instead of struggling in the usually crowded main streets leading to Vietnam’s busiest airport.

The cable car system would be built in the nearby Hoang Van Thu and Go Vap parks. Read more

ITB Asia: Cable car adds new line

SINGAPORE, 21 October 2016: Faber Peak, a hilltop attraction facing Sentosa, makes its debut at ITB Asia this year.

Best known for its cable car that spans the narrow sea channel between Singapore and Sentosa, the 100-metre high peak is now positioning itself as an attraction for overseas visitors.

Halong Bay breaks records

QUANG NINH, 30 June 2016: The world’s longest cabin cable car system and the highest Ferris Wheel were inaugurated at Bai Chay tourist site, Halong city, in the northern province of Quang Ninh late last week.

Local media reports during the opening ceremony, 25 June, claimed representatives from Guinness World Records were present to provide certificates that recognised the cable car system as the world’s largest cabin cable car system and the Sun Wheel as the world’s highest Ferris wheel.

The cable car, which was designed based on consultations with the Austrian company Doppelmayr and Switzerland’s Garaventa, extends 2.2 km and can carry up to 230 persons per cabin. The pylon stands at a height of 188.88-metre above the ground. Read more

Cable car reaches Fansipan

LAO CAI, 12 February 2016: A cable car that transports tourists to Vietnam’s Fansipan peak overlooking Sapa in the far north of country opened to visitors, last week.

Tuoi Tre News reported the Fansipan Sapa Cable Car spans Muong Hoa Valley to the 3,143-metre high peak of Fansipan, Indochina’s highest summit.

The 6,282 metre long cable car system  has already been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records a the longest three-cable span worldwide. Read more

Cable car venture in Vietnam

KHANH HOA, 10 September 2015: Khanh Hoa provincial authorities have approved a USD15 million project to build a cable car system to the Hon Ba Nature Reserve, a popular tourist attraction on a mountain some 57 km from Nha Trang.

Thanh Nien News reported that an eco-cultural tourism area will also be established to attract more tourists to the Hon Ba peak.

According to the investor, Hon Ba – Yersin Tourism Investment Joint Stock Company, Hon Ba should attract up to 1.5 million tourists every year once the project is finished. Most of the visitors will be domestic tourists.

Expansion on Phu Quoc island

PHU QUOC, 20 August 2015: People’s Committee of Kien Giang province has approved a project to build a cable car linking An Thoi Town and Hon Thom Isle on Phu Quoc Island.

Local media reported the project involving a 7-km cable car system, a hotel and an entertainment complex will cost USD458.4 million. SunGroup is the main investor.

The first phase of the project, worth USD225 million, will be completed by 2017.
