BANGKOK, 19 September 2017: After 19 years, Malaysia farewells the Formula 1 series later this month, while neighbour Singapore has signed a new contract to keep its famous F1 night race roaring for another five years.

Hosting mega sports events are the Holy Grail for nations keen to create awareness and boost tourism earnings.

Malaysia lowered the curtain on its F1 Grand Prix claiming it was no longer cost effective. Singapore after several rounds of negotiations secured a financial package that should give it bottom-line benefits for the next five year. Read more

Singapore extends F1 contract

SINGAPORE, 18 September 2017 – Singapore GP Pte Ltd and Singapore Tourism Board announced, Friday, that they will continue to host the FIA Formula 1 World Championship for four more years from 2018 to 2021.

The agreement was concluded after several rounds of negotiations between the Singapore Tourism Board, the race promoter, Singapore Grand Prix Pte Ltd (SGP), and FORMULA 1 that commenced last February.

The announcement comes against the background of a year-to-date 19% increase in ticket sales, with the weekend sales still to be included. Read more

Lagnua Phuket readies for the race

PHUKET, 14 September 2017: Organisers of the 24th Laguna Phuket Triathlon presented the final race programme at a  “meet press” event at Phuket City Hall, Wednesday.

“ The Phuket Governor Meet Press” session, hosted by Phuket Governor, Norapat Plodthong, presented the latest details of the island’s iconic endurance  race.

This year’s event will comprise of an inaugural LPT Charity Fun Run Saturday, 18 November and 24th annual LPT on Sunday 19 November. Read more

Hong Kong welcomes Asia’s cyclists

HONG KONG: Three of Hong Kong’s iconic bridges figure in the route of a cycling road race, hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board that should draw thousands of cycling enthusiasts from around the world.

Targeting cyclists of all ages, the Hong Kong Cyclothon 2017 is scheduled for 8 October.

The organiser, Hong Kong Tourism Board, is confident the Cyclothon will attract some 5,000 local and international cyclists for a race of speed and endurance on a circular city route passing popular landmarks. Read more

SINGAPORE, 1 September 2017: Singapore celebrates 10 years of Formula 1 racing with more than 100  lifestyle events, activities and promotions, in 8 to 17 September, on the sidelines of the nighttime grand prix.

Officially known as the Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix it is accompanied by a raft of celebratory events under the banner Grand Prix Season Singapore.

Myanmar hill town hosts trail run

YANGON, 31 August 2017: Myanmar’s third annual MyWorld Kalaw Trail Run has opened for registration.

The event, featuring a trail half-marathon (21km) and a 12 km trail run, will offer scenic races through beautiful forests surrounding Kalaw, a hilltop-town 30 km from Inle Lake.

CHIANG MAI, 8 August 2017: International cycle tour operator, SpiceRoads Cycling, is inviting race enthusiasts to ride with its 2017 Master Tour of Chiang Mai cycle race team.

The Masters Tour of Chiang Mai is an annual road race event staged in Thailand’s northern capital and often tagged by guidebooks as the “Rose of the North.”

Pattaya marathon reboots

PATTAYA, 7 August 2017: Pattaya City joins hands with Provincial Chonburi Administrative Organisation, Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Athletic Association of Thailand to organise the 26th Pattaya Marathon 2017, 3 September.

The event was supposed to take place 16 July, but Pattaya City could not secure core sponsors and an organiser in time, according to the Pattaya Marathon website.

It has now been rescheduled for Sunday, 3 September, with the start and finish line on Pattaya Beach Road. Read more

Sprint to a Spartan Race

BANGKOK, 21 July 2017: Places for the Spartan Race to be held in Pattaya this September are filling up fast according to organiser, Exceed Sports and Entertainment.

The Thailand race will debut, 9 September at Siam Country Club in Chon Buri province, just 18 km east of Pattaya City.

Spartan Race’s main objective is to challenge people to lead healthier lives, with over 1 million participants and 200 events under its belt in over 30 countries in 2017. Read more

PATTAYA, 12 July 2017: Spartan Race labelled the world’s largest obstacle race series arrives in Thailand for the first time this September.

The inaugural event will be hosted at Siam Country Club around 18 k east of Pattaya town,  9 September. Organised by Exceed Sports and Entertainment, an events and sponsorship agency, the event promises the ultimate test of strength and endurance.
