Phuket sees boost in new attractions

PHUKET, 10 January 2018: Soaring tourist arrivals are not only driving hotel development in this popular tourist island, but also spurring growth in peripheral sectors such as attractions, according to the latest C9 Hotelworks research released, 5 January.

The report provides examples of expansion in attractions, mainly fuelled by a strong growth in visits from China, a market that demands man-made attractions to supplement visits to the beach.

With its successful water park in Hua Hin, Proud Real Estate plans to start the development of Vana Nava Phuket by Q4 2018.  Coupled with a 255-room Holiday Inn Express, the project is valued at nearly THB3 billion. Read more

Ocean Suites with a barbie

PHUKET, 15 November 2017 – The Nai Harn, a resort on Phuket island’s southwest tip has opened 16 new Ocean Suites featuring  their own BBQ units on a spacious terrace and a service button that brings the champagne waiter running.

The 40 square metre suites have their own private terraces with spectacular views of the sunset.

Gay Chinese flock to Thailand

PHUKET, 15 November 2017: Bathed in a pink spotlight, the cabaret singer at Phuket’s ZAG bar lip-syncs the top notes of a popular Mandarin love song, delighting the crowd of gay Chinese tourists who have escaped judgement at home for sexual freedom in Thailand.

While the song, “The Moon Represents My Heart”, is a hit with the patrons, the transgender singer is just the warm up act.

“We’re waiting for the go-go boys!” says one Chinese reveller at ZAG, one of several clubs squeezed into “Paradise Complex” — the epicentre of the raucous gay nightlife scene on the party-hard island. Read more

Macau air link to Phuket

MACAU, 16 October 2017: AirAsia’s newest route will link Macau, Asia’s top gambling destination with Thailand’s holiday island Phuket.

Scheduled for launch 8 January, 2018, the service is already open for bookings with a special fare starting at at THB 1,590 per sector.

Bookings are open from now until -29 October for travel, 8 January through to 21 November 2018. Read more

Cachet stamps footprint in Phuket sand

BANGKOK, 16 October 2017: A relatively new player in the hotel management game, Cachet Hospitality Group, will manage its first property in Thailand on Nai Yang Beach on the northwest coast of Phuket.

The resort will be branded Cachet Resort Dewa and have 128 rooms when the “conversion property” comes under its management 16 December.

The property is owned by R&B Partners Co Ltd, a Phuket-based property management company headed by Swedish entrepreneur and long-term Phuket expatriate resident, Lars Ydmark, who has 30 years experience in the hospitality industry mainly in Thailand. Read more

Are Phuket developers going inland?

PHUKET, 8 September 2017: Phuket tourism is no longer just about the beach according to C9 Hotelworks CEO,Bill Barnett’s latest market observations on the island hospitality real estate.

He cites Cherng Talay, which is near to the destination resort Laguna Phuket and Bangtao Beach, as an example of a trend that is encouraging resort developments to shift from beaches to other locations on the island.

Upcoming in the fourth quarter of this year will be the X2 Vibe Bangtao that is set to usher in a rush of new ‘off beach’ properties, C9 Hotelworks reports. Read more

GoAir readies for Phuket flights

BANGKOK, 29 August 2017: Mumbai-based budget carrier GoAir is ready to start its first international services to Male, in the Maldives and Phuket, Thailand, this October.

However, schedules for the airline’s first international services have not been finalised and bookings are not possible for either destination on the airline’s website.

It is understood the airline is waiting confirmation that two Airbus A320s will be delivered in time to launch the flights during October. Read more

Are Thailand’s tour buses safe

PHUKET, 9 August 2017: Thailand’s horrifically poor record for road safety was highlighted again when a tour bus carrying 25 Chinese tourists careered off a hilly road in Phuket and almost plunged down a steep mountain slope, late Sunday evening.

The accident occurred near Patong beach close to the scene of two other earlier accidents that occurred 11 July and 30 June.

The latest accident follows reports in the travel trade that Chinese tour operators have cancelled hotel allotments at some hotels in Patong Bay saying they would not risk transferring their guests over the hilly road that leads to the bay. Read more
